Hi All,

I will update more on Jill's blog tonight, but we just got back from the oncologist and have a plan!  Jill will be having four rounds of chemo, 2 rounds of Carboplatin, 2 rounds of Doxorubicin (alternating once every three weeks).  The best part was, they were even able to give her the first round of carboplatin today so that saves one trip! The oncologist has a very good outlook for my little Jill, so while I remain cautiously optimistic, it was very good to see the box marked under prognosis as "excellent - avg survival greater than 12 months". :D

so I think this is a good plan!  I have lots to tell in my blog about how Jill was at the oncologist, I was a very proud mama :)

Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. A plan is always a good thing!  A lot of dogs here (including my own) had carboplatin, so there will be plenty of answers if you any questions.  We did not do doxorubicin, but I know many others here did.  Good luck to Jill, can't wait to read her blog updates!!

Excellent is indeed excellent!
Having a plan gives you a little sense of control, doesn't it?

Can't wait for the blog.

That's good news.  Having a plan makes you feel you have some control.  Good luck with the chemo.

This is terrific, it really helps to have such a great onco doc working with you. I'm gonna bet that she will breeze right through this. Please keep us posted here so that we can all learn from our first kitty chemo experience at Tripawds. We've got our paws and fingers crossed that your brave girl doesn't have any side effects.

I'm gonna hop over to your blog now...

Thanks everyone!  It does feel so good to have a plan and I'm really happy with this plan!  I love the hospital where Jill is being treated.  I just drop her off in the morning, and they email me to tell me once her cbc is done if she is ok to be treated.  Then, once she is treated, they email me to let me know how she did and I can pick her up after work.  They make it very easy for us workin' folks!

Jill did great her first night!  She was very sleepy, but of course, cats usually are so it wasn't THAT unusual, I did notice that she was very thirsty and very picky about how cold the water was.  When she went to her water bowl she turned her nose up at it and stared at me.  It took me a while to figure out she wanted brand new fresh ice cold water (when I had just filled it up an hour ago!).

Wow, what an awesome clinic. Do you know how many people have to call their clinic to find out what's going on? Feel free to share your experience with them in our Veterinary Refferals Topic.

Jill is so cute. I can imagine that the onco drugs might leave a funny taste behind, so fresh water probably tastes super good to her. She's such a lucky girl to have a mom who's in tune with her requests.

Wahhooo!  Congrats, Jill and mom!  I'm glad you like your oncologist and that they've got a good system for you.  Great prognosis for her, too.  YES!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!
