Hello, Prayers and advice needed for my sweet Jasmine who I thought had recovered great 5 mos post amputation and 4 rounds of carbo chemo.  You all were so helpful and thoughtful before!!!  I'm sad I haven't taken the time to update and post Jasmine's story because it's been great until about 10 days ago.  Although, I was thinking she was having some increased panting a week or so after her last chemo May 1.  She had no other symptoms so the vet said she was fine.

Long story short because I'm at work.  The vet finally saw her Friday after emails and calls to him.  He removed a LITER of fluid from her lungs and put her on Lasix 50mg every 12 hours.  He had taken xrays and couldn't see anything but the fluid.  We are going back today for another xray in hopes he can see better (hopefully no charge for xrays).  And he was going to do some research on what it could be.

He put her on Rimadyl again 10 days ago in case it was pain.  Saw him last Monday and he said everything looked good and lungs were clear.  Monday night she suddenly started urinating frequently multiply times times each time let out.  Tue he put her on Amoxi 500mg every 8 hrs assuming it was UTI infection.  She wasn't any better by Friday so I took her in again when he discovered the fluid.  He said it was clear so it could be related to her heart.  She had been eating fine until Sat.  Now she isn't eating at all and is lying most of the time.

I'm heart sick that he is missing something that could have been minor and now it could be major.

Thank you for reading and taking the time.  It is so much appreciated and hopefully this could help others as well.  I'll be checking for answer before our appointment to see if there are any questions i can be asking him.

Will keep you updated.  Sherry and Jasmine

We had something similar with our dog Max.  Max had lung mets, though.  He had been breathing shallow for about a day and a half, and we noticed his chest was bigger, like it was protruding further from his body.  We took him in and he had fluid around his lungs.  We were told this was a product of the mets.  The fluid build-up, along with the mets, was now complicating his breathing.  We were told the fluid could be drained, but that it would not stop and continue to come back every 2 - 7 days.  Max never really liked going to the vet, so we chose to end his 14 month cancer battle.  I hope whatever is causing this in Jasmine can be taken care of easily.  We'll be thinking of your girl and sending positive thoughts.

Jasmine is a strong g girl ad so are you!

There are so many things gs it could be but heart issues keep coming up in my 2¢ worth. And I'm a little confused on the chronological times put forth, but certainly Lasix causes excessive peeing.

If it is heart conjestive issues...that can certainly be treated effectively for some really good extended quality time. I'm sure he's done thorough heart check, Xrays, etc. but it seems that could be causing g fluid build up....maybe?

A beloved human of mine had lung cancer...not saying Jasmine does.....but draining fluid from the lungs gave immediate relief for awhile.....felt like eating, etc. for a while

Don't hesitate to get a second opinion.....maybe a consult over phone e with onco too.

Surrou ding you with love and calm. Be in the present with Jasmine.....she's not worrying.....just enjoying you!

Sherry, I'm so sad to hear this but I'm holding out all my hope that this is nothing too serious. Fluid in the lungs can mean so many different things so the best advice I can give you is to try to stay calm, and not panic. Until you know what you're dealing with, save your energy so you can be strong for Jasmine.

Hugs coming your way, keep us posted.

Thank you all so much for the support...it sure does help.  We had another vet within the practice do an ultra sound last Wed and he found a mass in the pericardium of the heart.  How can that happen and have you all heard of that in dogs?  We started her on Prednisone Thursday and she seems better over the weekend, but her increased panting has returned today.  The ultra sound on Wed showed no fluid,  but I'm assuming it can gather quickly around the lungs from comments I've read?  I think I was in shock when he showed us and still have questions.  He said there weren't any mets in the lungs so is the fluid from the mass?  It's all very sad and you all can understand.  I'm a fighter , but I feel defeated for my sweet Jasmine....until my brain started thinking about questions and what if's.

I am very thankful for all the information on the site and found myself reading about "knowing when's it's time" today. I couldn't stop crying.

Thank you again!  Sherry and my sweet Jasmine "who is being spoiled like crazy"

Awwww Swwet Sherry, thanks for getting baxk to us.-..you know how we do worry about each other:-)

Okay, let's chunk it down i to bite size pieces....one at a time---

Pred. can be a dog's best friemd im times like these. From y experience, and others will tell yoj same---it DOES cause INCREASED PANTING in some dogs, ncreased thirst and, of course, increased peei g! Mo biggie!

The fluidis gone? Did ou say the fluid is gome? YAY! K dom't k ow what the vet attrivte that to----if I recall, did he nace her on antibiotics? Whatever....-it's gone!. And if it comes back, what's to say it won't go away aagain

Patiece is soooo hard right ow....but give the pred. ti e to work amd you'll see an icrease in appetite and an energy pick up. mmrocker jist posted today'on Sam eatimg so well thanks to pred......and she's the Queen of akig such good slop even we humans drool at the thought!

And, the other almost impossible thing to do....But you will because YOU ARE A FIGHTER AND SO IS JASMINE!! You jst lost sight of that for a second....that's okay.....were all here to remind you! Anyway.....stay in the present. Jasmine will let you know when it's ti e. You k w Jasmi e better than ayone...any of js--any vet...Soe dogs----if they can't walk...that's bad quaility for that particular sog------some dogs, if you roll them arou d in a stroller and carry them everywhere, they're thrilled to peces!!

So for nlw---and star with sixty secods, then two mi ites, etc. for ow LET GO of focusing on When" and focus on NOW! Let go of secod guessing ...can do that later.....for NOW enjoy every beat of jer eart and every tail wag !! She k ows ow much you love her and she's just glad to be with you,!

And we love you Sherrh and you ARE strong......you've got TRIPAWD POWER backing you up! Go get some sloppy kisses and give her so e ice cream!

Sherry, I'm so sorry, this is just so sad. Did they say if it's even cancer, like hemangiosarcoma, or a different kind of medical condition?

My heart goes out to you, I was so hoping it was better news. Please remember: Jasmine doesn't know what her condition is, all she wants is to be happy and pain-free. As her person, you can give this tremendous gift to her.

Live each day to the fullest and be strong. There will be time for tears some day far from now. And this community is always, always here for you.
