Hi! Jack is a sweet 75lb, 11 year old boy who we thought had dislocated he shoulder so we took him straight to a
DVM, Ortho surgeon. He determined in Xray that it was a tumor and biopsy determined Osteosarcoma was the prognosis.
They removed his front left leg and shoulder the next day and chemo followed the day of stitches removal. We have moved as quickly as we found out.
Tonight 2 day post chemo, he seems a bit more tired. He has been eating like a champ since the chemo yesterday and has not been nauseous but he has had soft stools/diarea on and off since diagnoses. Which is unusual for him. 🙁 We are administering Metromedizole to help with that but hope this stops soon. We recently switched our dogs back to ORIJEN six fish food a month ago and so thinking it could be that as well...
Just feeling a bit anxious as I want to do everything right for him.
He also has elbow displasia in the remaining leg so I worry about the other leg getting injured and thought about getting a "large dog stroller " to take him with me when I go places. Jack is almost 11 years old. But very peppy!

Sorry to hear about Jack’s diagnosis but you’re moving quickly to help him kick cancer’s butt so good job!
I’m on my phone now so I’ll be back later with more thoughts. For now I’m thinking that the food switch could have something to do with his runny poo. If you haven’t already tried a bit of edible green clay in his food I would give that a go. We have info about it in our Tripawds Nutrition blog . I’ll post a link when I’m back at my desk.

I have trouble getting Ranger (11yrs, 72 lb) to eat for a few days after chemo (just finished round 3). The vet prescribed Cerenia to help with nausea (which is usually why they don't want to eat). We feed twice a day, so I was noticing that he was not interested in eating, more in the morning than evening. I gave him a "meatball" of Cerenia in the morning, and then waited a half hour or so, and he seemed to eat a little better.
We usually feed Science Diet dry, but I have augmented with Science Diet in a can, Fresh Pet, and Royal Canin Gastro Intestinal High Energy (he had this at the hospital post surgery and loved it & this is what I used for the meatball). After surgery, they also gave him baby food to get him to eat, but I've not done that. At one point, I also got him to eat some rice. As long as he starts eating more regularly in a couple of days, you will be OK.
Also, on the Metromedizole, the vet tech told me that I am supposed to keep giving that until Ranger's stools are good for at least 24 hours. Wish I would have known that the first time.
