Also his incision is different then the other pictures I have seen. I notice most it goes up and down towards the neck to the leg his actually goes from his shoulder blade(which he still has) back along his tummy so it goes the length of his body well not quit its about half way. When he is settled down and not so uncomfortable I will try and post a pic of it. Thank you everyone I would have never known that no pain meds WASN'T the norm if it was not for all of you. This site truly is a saving grace. Oh and the kids are adjusting quite well all except Dylan he is concerned and worried about him and all but hasn't sat by him or petted him yet Ryder doesn't seem to let it bother him though he is coping very well, well as well as to be expected considering and his spirits are very high
Remind the kids that Ryder needs them to be strong and set a good example, because he will definitely pick up on their mood and follow their lead.
I can't find the blog now, but one member posted a video a while back of her kids hopping around like a tripawd, on all fours with one leg lifted. It was cute, and a fun exercise to show them the dog would do fine.
Give Ryder a good ear rub for us and keep everyone here posted!

Sorry to hear that Ryder is still struggling. I am a big believer that everything happens for some reason. We may never know what that reason is. Maybe losing this leg now is nature's way of removing a limb that might have been diseased later. Maybe this dog will be the inspiration to some physically challenged child. I could go on and on but you get the point. Some things are just bigger than us. Sending hugs and peaceful thoughts to your family!
Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Ryder and my Gus have had the same schedule so far! Gus was amputated on Friday, came home on Monday--also without pain meds. We had some codeine left over from before the amp and the vet said that would be fine to give if Gus seems like he is in pain.
Hugs and pats to you and Ryder!

I am happy to say Ryder is doing VERY well...his tummy issues are almost all gone he still has some loose stool but hes been getting around very well, going up and down stairs from day one, getting in and out of my yukon unassisted(he uses the running boards like steps so no jumping) and he is still having no pain. Knock on wood he has not "crashed" yet we have had all good days and nights so far. He went to vet today because doc said since hes getting better we will stick with two pain pills in 24hrs until monday so I had to go get more. He looked at wound and said he knew he would bounce back fast but he has even surpassed the vets expectations
I am also very pleased to report Dylan let Ryder outside yesterday all by himself and he sat down beside him and petted him for the first time since the accident yesterday as well. Today he even insisted Ryder were one of his t-shirts. Mama got a little emotional as I watched it happen but I know we are going to be just fine now ....thank you so much for asking
A very happy mama and Ryder
Just catching up and reading about Ryder!
It sounds like that dog doesn't need that leg….cause he is all heart anyway!
Wishing Ryder a good recovery!
Tell Dylan that my daughter had a really hard time with our dog''s amp. She had some really emotional days. Writing and drawing about Bud helped her alot!
