Pixie is doing really well right now. We finish her antibiotics
tomorrow, she is off the metacam, which has perked up her appetite a bit
and is on the Tramadol only once a day, of course, if she needs more,
we give it. But all in all, she seems quite comfortable. She likes
laying on her surgical side. She also wants to go out back and bake in
the sun. Considering she is a flat faced snorting breed, and couple in
the temp here in Fresno is registering 105 in the shade = not good for
Pixie. I let her go out to potty and whisk her in, but I do give in
early and late in the day and let her heat up in the sun for a few
minutes.
I do see some mild high and lows, almost as though it is
emotional. And sometimes when she is hopping around, and I know it
tires her, she just kind of sits there and stares at me, and I just get
this feeling she is saying, "Why is everything so hard now?". I guess I
think the same thing. Two weeks ago there was not even a tumor to see,
now we are in the fight for her life. But I really believe if a dog can
make it, Pixie is one of those likely to succeed. She is young, trim and
very athletic with a really positive attitude. That has to count for
something!
Oh, and I finally got her off the Cesar dog food. She
still refuses her regular food, but she is eating the Natural Balance
dog food rolls right now, which, while it has a few things in it I do
not like, is still 100% better than the Cesar.

I'm so glad to hear that Pixie is doing better... You (she) will have ups and downs during her recovery, but this is normal... Are you adding anything extra to her food to make her want to eat it? Chicken, liver, cheese, etc...?
Angel Jake and Wolfie's Mom
Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!
Oh lord, my fridge is full of stuff I have tried. We cooked chicken, steak, fish, canned mackeral, liver, and nothing other than the scrambled eggs (rarely) and liverwurst works. I just do not think it is healthy for her to exist on liverwurst *snicker*. Of course, if I can exsist on DingDongs and pizza, why can't she live on the liverwurst?! Forgive me, I am so tired and this has been the week from hell around here. At least we are off the Cesar!

Oh what a coincidence, we were just talking about how Natural Balance rolls help perk up dog's appetites, in our Tripawds Nutrition Blog.
I know they worked great for me!

Funny, that is one of the reasons I tried it, was because I saw it somewhere on here. She is really perky today, this is her first day totally off painkillers, finished the antibiotics, and is raring to go. Hopped up on the recliner and gave a huge sigh and snort and passed out for 2 hours.
I was thinking, that since her activity level will not quite be what it used to be, that I would have to cut her food intake back, but I am wondering if it is the opposite. That maybe they have to work harder and exert more calories and need more.
Aw cool! We like the rolls, except the duck ones are too squishy, they get all smooshed in treat bags and are hard to carry around.
As or her food intake, it's always better to keep Tripawds on the lean side. You'll need to experiment to see what quantity of food works for her.
Glad to hear she's perky after being off those painkillers! Have a great day! Snort!

Oh those Natural Balance food rolls bring back a lot of memories. That was the only thing Mackenzie would eat during her recovery for several days. She wouldn't eat anything else – not all the home cooked food I made her including hamburger, chicken, turkey, rice etc., only those Natural Balance rolls. In fact I often wrote to other recovering tripawds who wouldn't eat to try those .
I'm glad Pixie is doing so well. It's amazing how they make complete turnarounds once they're off the pain meds. Way to go Pixie!
Kami (Mackenzie's Mom)
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
