I have been reading the posts more recently now that Brody is almost through with his chemo. I know there will be more decisions to make in the near future. So as a fun thing to do today I took Brody and his sister, Sophie (also a greyhound), to a new dog park. Before Brody broke his leg last year, this was their only chance to run since we don't have a big back yard. Brody has not run in 20 months.
I know that there is a lot of controversy about dog parks, but my dogs love them and the other dogs and their owners. This new park was great. There was a section for smaller dogs and more than a half acre section for the large dogs. Sophie immediately started running with the dogs that were fetching. Brody wandered off to sniff and pee. When he got to the far side of the park he looked back at me and then took off running at full speed toward me. So beautiful to watch. I was terrified but delighted because here was my old Brody running towards me with a look of pure joy on his face. He is now asleep but appears to have a smile on his face. No matter what happens in the months to come, I will remember this day always.

What a great story! Thank you so much for sharing. Do you have a video camera? I started taking videos of Jackers playing so I could remember how much he loved running and being a goof 🙂 I also send them to my friends and family, and I'm pretty sure they're getting sick of them but they humor me by their nice replies. We also love the dog park. Our apartment complex has a dog park and I like to take my dogs to play with other resident doggies. It's funny because whenever I take Jack in people hold on to their dogs and tell them to be calm, so I have to let them know that even though he has 3 legs he can still get down and dirty and can handle it if he gets jumped on. I'm sure I'll read this post again...it really made me smile 🙂

Love it! Brody brought tears of joy to my eyes and a big smile to my face. Thanks for sharing.

Pat and Brody,
By all means enjoy these precious moments together, but that has and should be our matra regardless of any diagnosis. It does sound like Brody is moving through the chemotherapy very well. For us, we really did not see a great quality of life until all the chemicals were gone from Cherry's system, so you may expect even more of these great times. As a not-to-distant neighbor, I trust that you went to the park before the real heat build-up. We have an extremely well insulated home and nearly always enjoy the Bay Area cooling at night. Therefore, Cherry does not really experience the extreme heat. However, Cherry's energy level does drop when we experience these 100+ days.
Paws crossed and pawsitive thought headed your way for many more such great times.

I agree about the look of joy on a greyhound's face when he's running. Cemil's buddy Radzi is a Polish greyhound (Chart Polski) and of course he loves to run too. I can visualize Brody, with tears of joy. What a great, I mean greyt, day! Thanks for sharing.
