Happy Hannah has a cast iron somach, but Melxicam (Metacam) made her nauseous.
That's so unusual, oftentimes vets give that instead of Rimadyl because that NSAID is harder on the stomach.

Hi. I'm glad to hear Marshall is starting to feel better. Thought I might put my 2 cents in (for what it's worth ). A few months ago my tripawd Daisy started acting like she was trying to cough something up and she would drip saliva out of her mouth so bad it would leave a wet spot wherever she was laying. She also licked her chops non-stop.
Took her to the vet and found out it was acid reflux. Vet prescribed her 400 mg of Cimetidine 2x day. Totally stopped the licking, gagging and drooling within 24 hours. Every once in a while she'll start up again. I just buy the over-the-counter Cimetidine at Walmart (although it is half the prescription dose at 200 mg). I'll usually give it to her for a few days and the symptoms go away.
I imagine in Daisy's case it is caused by her meds. She has advanced arthritis and has been on either Deramaxx or Meloxicam daily for the past 4 years.

Another reason I am madly in love with this website - the tips and experiences! Marta, Shelby has been licking her chops and nose but no dripping saliva or wet spots or gagging so her vet figured it was nothing but it's been bugging me. I'll ask them on Tuesday about acid reflux as a possible cause. I don't even know what that really is (in humans or dogs) and since Shelby is perfectly normal by every other test, that's why they don't really think there is an issue.
Her chop licking has reduced greatly since she went off her coltis meds but she still licks her nose (more than she did pre-cancer, I think). But I'll toss that at them. The vet LOVES me (kidding, sort of).
But I am glad to hear Marshall is doing better!
Hugs,
Alison and Shelby

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
