Ok, so the first few days chuck did good. His appetite is next to nothing now though. Diarrhea, the works. He was full of energy today, but now I can't get him to take his pills. And I'm freaked out about the chemo in his feces. I wipe him off after he goes to the bathroom. But I have cats and a kid and I'm freaked out that he's still bringing it inside. I hose the grass down after he goes. I'm just so freaked out about this whole process. I've tried different foods. Peanut butter, cream cheese, liver wurst, chicken. He won't eat. He'll drink. He pees. Doc had me give him immodium and pepto. He's also taking pepsid ac. Ugh. I read that it isn't until a few days after chemo that these symptoms show up. I just freaked out. Really really freaked out. And I already called the vet . Going To call him in the morning. When does it get better? He doesn't seem to be in pain. Not limping at all.

Lori, I'm so sorry, this has got to be so scary.

First, try not to be freaked out about the chemo in the runny poo. It is my understanding (someone correct me if I'm wrong) but the chemo is supposed to be out of their system within 24 hours.

As for the eating part, remember that dogs who aren't feeling well instinctively know to save their energy for healing. Eating isn't a priority so they can reserve their body's energy to feel better faster.

If you live near a good health food store, go get some Edible Green Silica Clay. It's dirt cheap and a miracle for dogs with diarrhea. Tripawds fairy vet mother Kelly (Wookie) used it when Wookie had bad runny poo and it was the only thing that worked for him. We swear by it for our Wyatt.

Hang in there and see what your vet advises. There are anti-diarrheal prescription drugs you can get so be sure to ask for something.

We have our paws crossed that things get better, please keep us posted OK? And the chat seems to be working well tonight so hop on over if you'd like.

My vet said IV chemo is out of the system within 72 hours.  But I always wore rubber gloves when cleaning anything up just as a precaution as that is what they advised.  Washing the grass down does not hurt.  I also mentioned the green clay thing in your blog as that is what Rene (Jerry) advised us to get for Sassy.  I was lucky I never really had to use it as she had loose stools but not runny.

You can always try what I consider high treat food.  My vet mentioned bland foods for them when that happened.  I will see where my list of foods is for the chemo recommendations that they gave us.  Its in a folder just have to find the right one.  Since we started this journey its been 2 folders full of info.

Hugs

You sound so overwhelmed. I wish I had magic words to help.

I'm glad you are getting support here and in chat. I don't have much useful to say since Cora isn't dealign with cancer but I wanted you to know I care.

Thanks guys. I am just worried about putting him through this for nothing or hurting him more . I do need to relax because its not helping. He was foing do good them boom.refuses to eat anything. This is such a roller coaster. And I know I'd question my path no matter what I chose to do. Day by day I suppose.

It's OK, there's never been a single person who hasn't questioned their decision at least once. Give this a shot and if you decide it's not for Chuck, that's OK too, you can always modify your treatment to what works for you and him. Good luck today, let us know what the vet says.

As you know I've been writing on the other post too with mothers. There is a common thread being repeated over ad over...and all by people who have shared simulate experiences so, rather than be repetitive, I just encourage you to re-read BEFORE the stress kicks I to high gear! Much easier to control it at a lower level!! That kid of stressful energy....that we all can relate to.....is NOT helping Chuck

You are doing all this FOR him...Not TO him!

He IS better.....he's of limping....not in pain!!! COGRATUALTIONS!!

For whatever it's worth, my onco. didn't give me ANY instructions on cleaning up chemo poop!! When I read about it here I called....she sarcastically responded that unless was eating eat, it's not a problem!!

B E A T H E........B R E A T H E........INHALE DEEPLY........EXHALE DEEPLY

DO NOT WASTE THE GIFT OF TIME YOU HAVE ON ANYTHING THAT TAKES YOUR FOCUS AWAY FROM LOVING HIM AND MAKING HIS TAIL WAG:-) :-) :-)

Step I to our strength! You are doing great nd. ow let's step it up a notch and even do better!! We are beside you! AGood job!

Sally and Happy Hannah

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
