He just started Amoxi Clav they had to make sure it was ok to give with the CCNU that he's on for Chemo, he hasn't had an appetite prior to the antibiotics. He is eating cooked steak though so he's gotten two meals of that the last one with cottage cheese and pumpkin. He threw up his kibble today so may have to take him off of that not sure I can afford a steak a meal though!

Good brief JD. Your mom stays off the site for awhile and all h--- breaks loose! Good thing you're back here so we can help be supportive!
Sure you've tried boiled chicken and maybe going a little bit more bland may help. But hey, if he's eating the steak, etc that's a real good sign. I don't recall what chemo JD is on, but it's certainly possible the puking and not having that great of an appetite could just be a side effect. Did they give you cerenia or anything like that for nausea?

So sorry about all the challenges but I know he's enjoying all the love AND steak! A little delay in the chemo shouldn't be a problem while you get him back on track

It's sooooo hard not to worry. but we're here to help anyway we can. Give the antibiotics time to work and once the infection is gone away JD should feel better.

You both hag in there and keep on enjoying the loving!!

Sending you healing thoughts, Sally and Happy Hannah

Thanks Benny, How's Hanna been doing?

The Oncologist said he should get side effects a few days later not this much later so who knows maybe his taste is too rich now lol. I was giving him chicken, crushed peppers, rice, cottage cheese and carrots but he wasn't a fan of the rice really. So Just have to play with his food until I figure out something he will eat.

My vet (who didn't do the surgery but is my regular vet) has been great its to the point I just say who I am and they will make time for him they stayed late yesterday so I could bring him in, by time we go to the room I was crying since I already knew he had an infection something we were trying hard to avoid. I think I'm doing a lot of worrying but its hard to know if its the cancer, the chemo or if he's just having a tough day I want him to start living a good life already or all of this wouldn't have been worth it.

So glad I checked back here one more time before tuckg all the pups in......somehow I just knew you would be worrying (only because it takes one to know one!!!!) because you are such a caring mom!

Let's eliminate a couple of concerns for now..........probably NOT the cancer because they've pretty much already identified an Infection

Has just developed a taste for expensive food so you're probably stuck there for awhile,..

The chemo could still affect the appetite......one thing we've all learned on this site is there are ALWAYS exceptions!

Now, the fun part.......try really hard to be patient and give the antibiotics time to work!! Patience is soooooo hard when you want the recovery to hurry up!! You have made every decision out of love and that s the right decision. Infections, unfortunately happen and probably doesn't help in making a day "less tough".

For whatever it's worth sooooo many of us start thinking.....oh dear....the recovery isn't going to happen......and then..........

You recall have pretty clear reasons for a slower recovery (which happens in so many cases). So I think if you can UST realize that the infection will clear up and you WILL see the sparkle come back you can go on and start breathing a sigh of relief.........Okay ow, we want to HEAR that loud sigh of relief!! Seriously, exhale loud enough so we can all hear it......listening......listening.....WOW! Other it is !, Good job! indeed my ear plugs

You rest easy now and know that all is well....you are without est buddy and tgphat,s all that matters

Sending you peace, calm, seven it and healing.....it's on it's way!,Sally and Happy Hannah

Oh yeah, that AB can really upset a belly that's already upset from other stuff. Like Sally said you might want to stick with a blander diet, just basic chicken and white rice for now, until he gets over this hurdle. We have our paws crossed that he will very soon!

JD got passed the infection in a few days the wound was healed a week later the vets were amazed and how well he was looking and acting. We received his chemo and he seems to react a few days later with an episode of vomitting up his kibble he never vomits steak or chicken so he's getting that quite a bit. I posted a video on the Facebook page of him enjoying a romp out at our walking trails and he loved it we are just going for short walks on leash but he's doing well!

:-) :-) :-) :-) WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWW! So glad to hear the good news! I think everyone worries when someone is having challenge and then you don't hear back for awhile.

In this case, "no news is good news":-) :-) :-) :-)

I'm sure the vet gave yo the anti nausea pill.....has that not helped?. Cute that JD just throws up the kibble........he's not gonna waste that steak!:-) :-)

Don't know now to use Facebook (I know, I know.......pretty disturbing....weird ....etc.) so could you post the video/photos here? Would love to see JD.

Thank you so much for updating g us and please make it a little more frequently.......your extended family worries about you!

We care about you, Sally and Happy Hannah

JD you're getting steak and chicken? Cool!

I hope your belly is settled down now, but even if it is maybe your people will keep on feeding you those gourmet meals? ;)

Your video is fun! I wanted to embed it here for Sally and Happy Hannah but we can't embed those kinds of videos. If you have a YouTube account we can share that link there though.

Jodi, sending good thoughts your way! You will be amazed at what JD will accomplish over the next few months. Regarding food - our little Tripawd has not been wanting to eat much lately and I discovered a freeze dried raw product called Stella and Chewys. It comes in little pucks and I crumble it on top of her kibble. Her favorite is the rabbit and I am delighted at how it has helped her appetite. Just wanted to share in case that might help JD.

Hey Everyone!

For some reason I wasn't able to access the forum for the last little while. JD loved going to the trails I wasn't sure how to upload the video here so that's why I put it on Facebook. He's doing amazing sometimes too well and he spends some mornings barking way too much lol. We are going to monitor if he vomits this week after his Chemo than I'm going to get him anti nausea meds. He still gets steak and or chicken for most suppers with cottage cheese and a veggie. I switched his kibble to something better called Canisource its dehydrated and it might as well be steak as he loves it!

We went to the Oncologist for our third chemo and follow up. Greatest news, his chest x-ray is clear no mets, white count is great and liver panel is good the milk thistle is working and protecting his liver. While we were in another city I wanted to take him to his favorite dog park its quite the trek around a kilometre but we went anyways and he got to play in the water (we still have some snow but that didn't stop him!) he was pretty tired on the way back but he made it. And he loved loved loved playing there so I think it was worth it. I made pupcakes today and that was his reward for being in remission! The Oncologist thinks since he's responding so well to chemo we can do more treatments and hopefully he stays in remission longer.

Yay! So glad to hear everything is going so well! What a fabulous update.

What happened when you couldn't access the Forums? Sometimes that does happen to members randomly, for a lot of different reasons. If it ever happens to you again, close your browser and just wait 10 minutes or so, you should then be able to get back in. Sorry about that.

Here's a link about adding images to your post. Hope it helps, we'd love to see the video!

JD sooooooo glad you are having an exhaustingly good time......that's what I call a good time:-) :-) :-) Your picture is so cute, I really hope all the brains who know about stuff like that can get your video on here!

Love that you like your kibble almost as good as steak.....gonna' have to give it a try.

You both are strong and all that love you are sharing certainly has a magnificent impact on your continued healing!

Please keep us posted and be sure and let us know how well your next chemo goes!

Keeping all paws crossed and keep on holding out for more steak:-) :-)

Hmmm... likely a temporary network problem, but could be anything from your connection, to the server load or anything in between.

If you're still encountering such issues, please post as much detail as possible in the tech support forum so we can troubleshoot better.
