Lily and I went to the vet tonight; I was worried about the excessive panting. He did chest x-rays and they were clear We are 8 months and about a week post amp
Lily did gain 3 pounds, so she and I both need to take some jogs! The vet tech said she is a stocky greyhound--hey, does that make me stocky too??
He's trying something new for her stomach-maybe an ulcer-she's on a few stomach meds right now. I passed along stomach info from another greyhound owner here, and he found it very interesting.
Thanks so much to everyone for being here!!
Joan and Lily, my beautiful tripawd princess
Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.
This is great news!!!! Yay
Levi was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma 7-7-11
Ampuversary 10-14-11
Lung Mets Discovered 1-4-12. Chemo seemed to not be working so we switched to Artemisinin and other supplements. In May, Levi developed a sinus infection and started having seizures. The cancer had moved to his brain. We let him go 6-26-12.
Clear xrays is the best news you can get!
Hooray! Hope her tummy problems get resolved.
Jackie
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Hooray!!! Way to go, Lily!
Samdog was a 10 yr old Golden and retired SAR dog. We found a bone mass on 8/17/12, needle biopsy showed sarcoma 8/22/12, amputation on 8/23/12, post-amp biopsy confirmed osteosarcoma on 8/28/12. Sadly, we found lung mets on 11/27/12 and my Spirit Sam earned his wings on 12/2/12.
We didn't know where we were headed and we don't regret a single step along our path. It all happened too fast, but he left a legacy of love that we will always cherish. Good bye my heart.

That must be a huge relief! Clear xrays. Yeh!!!
Karen and Spirit Magnum
Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. My beloved heart dog, see her memoirs from Rainbow Bridge ...... http://princess.....pawds.com/
Whew! What a great report from the doc! As for those 3 pounds, well three IS the magic number after all. At least dawgs can lose weight a heckuva lot faster than people. Time for lots of green beans!
What stomach meds is she on?

Yea!!
I had great success getting weight off my older quad pug girl Tani who has somewhat limited mobility with the Trouble bean diet!
I love the 'subtle' hints about weight.... stocky greyhound . I think for my pug Tani 'stocky' would have been a compliment on how thin she was getting!
Karen and the pugapalooza
LOVE IT!! That is wonderful news for a beautiful girl!
Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Jack Russell born in 2001. Mast cell cancer found Dec 2009 and right rear amputation. Five rounds of chemo done before all treatment stopped. Living life to the fullest!! Read my story at http://rizzo.tripawds.com
Thank you all so much!!! I feel so grateful for every day I have with her.
Trying to figure out why 3 pounds (since July 13th)--I don't think anything has changed. Does fish oil add weight? Maybe she's been sneaking into the fridge.
The vet is putting her on Glutamine 4000mg a day for the stomach. I'll let you know how it goes.
Wishing everyone a good week-end

Treats for everyone...that is awesome news! Getting that done is always a scary time. Glad to hear the outcome was a positive one!
Cadence's Mom
Cadence Faye: Born 10/30/04, stepped into our hearts 12/23/2004. Rear leg tumor found 7/24/11 by mom and dad, Xray on 7/25/11, Osteosarcoma suspected 7/26/11, amputation 7/29/11, Carboplatin started 8/23. Met free so far!
Three pounds on my greyhound is really only one good poop! =) I wouldn't worry too much. But if she is getting "stocky" then maybe it's more than that! Stocky greyhound is sort of an oxymoron. Do you know her racing weight? How far off of that is she?) With the loss of his leg Duke is right about at his racing weight. With all 4 I kept him about 8 lbs over... since they race them emaciated after all!
Yay on the clear x-rays! Hope her tum is feeling better soon.
Lily's racing weight was 56 pounds, and she was way too thin. She leveled out around 66 pounds. Now she is 69--although I heard my husband talking to himself as he was feeding her this morning and saying," I guess I was feeding her too much." So, I think the problem has been solved
Again, thanks so much for all the good wishes,
Joan and Lily
