I have a Labrador age 10 who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September and had rear leg amputated Oct 1 with first chemo two weeks later. X rays were taken before amputation and looked good. He is on a clinical trial for a vaccine every 2 weeks and receives corboplatin.

He was doing pretty well until right before his third chemo treatment and all of sudden got picky with food. Good better then received his third chemo and appetite went back to being picky. The last couple of days he hardly eats anything. So his appetite hasn't been normal for over 2 weeks now.

I'm taking him in tomorrow to see the oncologist to see what's wrong. He coughs now and then too. Could cancer have spread gotten that bad in 2 months with treatment? Or is it pneumonia? I'm worried. Anyone else experience this problem?

Hi Chase and family, welcome. Please consider registering as a member so your posts don't need approval OK?

It's great that Chase has been doing well up until now. When was his last chemo treatment? Sometimes side effects like inappetence can appear up to 10 days beyond the treatment. That could be what's happening, we'll keep our paws crossed.

Try not to panic OK? Your oncologist will know exactly what's going on (a chest x-ray will probably be necessary so be prepared for that). It could be any number of things unrelated to cancer. For example our dog Wyatt Ray had aspiration pneumonia last year at this time, which made breathing and eating difficult. I'm not saying that's what Chase may be dealing with, but just want to illustrate that these symptoms can be related to lots of things, cancer just makes us think the worst.

Many people have been freaked out over similar symptoms when the issue turned out to be totally not cancer-related. So we will keep our fingers and paws crossed that it's the same for Chase. Will you update us tomorrow? We will be here OK?

Give your boy a big ol smooch from us. Hang in there!

Sadly chase's cancer has come back. He is currently on pain medication and isn't expected to make it through the week.

Ohhhh nooooo. I'm so saddened to read this. I was so hoping it was something else. My heart goes out to you and your family, this is so sad.

For now, do your best to hold back the tears. I know it feels impossible to do that, but Chase wants to know you will be OK when he gets his wings. The best way to reassure him is to hold his loving personality and all the good times in your heart as you cope with the next few days. Did your vet talk to you about how you want to prepare to say goodbye? Knowing what to expect can help. Here is a blog post that may give you some ideas to get your mind around all this:

How to Prepare for Pet Loss Before It Happens

Let us know how we can help too OK? Our Coping with Loss Discussion Forum is a good place to start a discussion about preparing to set him free. It's not easy, but it is the kindest thing we can do in a terrible situation like this.

I'm so sorry. Please keep in touch and remember you can always call the Tripawds Helpline too OK?

So shocked and terribly sad to hear this.  Completely  unexpected.  This disease is so brutal , so unrelenting and so unpredictable .

None of us have a crystal ball.  We do anything and everything to give our dogs the best possible  chance.  And you sure have.

Co tinue to stay in the moment with Chase. He's here with you now and now is all we have.  No one knows how exactly how long any of is have.    I'm  hoping with all my heart Cjase proves these Vets wrong.  It happens all the time.

Did the Bet offer any cough  syrups or Prednisone to make him more comfortable.  Plus, the Pred. can stimulate  his appetite.

Remember, Chase hasn't  heard a word avout the crap disease spreading.  Do not let it interfere with your time together .  Continue  to ,make happy memories  with your Chase.  We would love to see some pics of him when you have a chance.   Here's a link to help with that :

He seemed comfortable today but has trouble walking further than 10 ft and has to sit down. No prednisone just rymadil and gabapentin. Thanks for the well wishes. It's going to be hard letting him go as he's been my best friend for 10 yrs

So so sorry.  Sadly cancer has a mind of its own and does what it wants.  This is the hardest part of the journey.  For you and any others at this hard place know our thoughts and prayers are with you daily.  Our hearts break along with yours.  We cry with you and for you.  Take each day you have and show Chase how much you love him.  And when beautiful Chase's time comes may he go off gently and join all the Angels who were before him and are waiting to welcome him. ❤️

Chase is so handsome!  Love that picture.  He looks so content  and so relaxed.

Glad to hear Chase is comfortable,  even if he doesn't  feel like running a marathon.

More pictures of this special boy!
