My little Monkey butt is home today! Yay, I'm so happy to have both my boys home with me. Levi is feeling a little better and we tackled the stairs for the first time today. We are just sticking to our Tramadol and Previcox today. The Gabepentin (sp?) really makes him act strange. I think i am only going to give it to him on a bad day...
His Elbow sore is getting pretty big. Any advice on how to make that feel better?
Levi was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma 7-7-11
Ampuversary 10-14-11
Lung Mets Discovered 1-4-12. Chemo seemed to not be working so we switched to Artemisinin and other supplements. In May, Levi developed a sinus infection and started having seizures. The cancer had moved to his brain. We let him go 6-26-12.
Good to hear that Levi is doing well.
The elbow sore issue is common in front amps and was just discussed in another forum. You can find it HERE. I found it by doing a forum search on elbow.
There is input from several members, and links to how to treat hygromas, and make Gayle's custom elbow pads.
I don't have any experiences to share as my Tri-pug was a rear amp.
I hope Levi's recovery continues uneventfully.

Oh good news!
You may want to talk to your vet about how to give gabapentin before changing the recommended dosages. I've heard that sudden withdrawals or inconsistent dosages can cause problems. Let your vet know how he's reacting so the medication schedule can be adjusted without harmful withdrawals.
Keep up the great work!

I think a call into the vet sounds like a good idea...His stitches seem to be healing great but he doesn't act like himself at all. He seems really depressed and I'm having a hard time getting him to eat anything even hamburger 🙁

We know this is a ruff time but you'll get through this, just watch! Be sure to read Maggie's blog post today celebrating her TWO YEAR ampuversary, and you're sure to be inspired. Things DO get better!

Oh no! Poor Levi.
He could be reacting to the tramadol also. That makes them weird too. And if he doesn't feel like eating, then mabye his tummy hurts...that could be from the Previcox.
Talking with your vet is always best! Keep us posted, okay?
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Valentina's remaining front elbow got very red and sore very soon after the surgery. It even bled sometimes and looked swollen. You could tell it hurt her because she didn't want to put her weight on it when laying down. When she would lay down I would put a folded up blanket or soft towel under her elbow and that helped . But over time she kind of developed a callous and her elbow got used to the extra weight on it. She is 150lbs so I can see why it was so sore. But I think many dogs gets sore elbows after the amputation just because the elbow isn't used to it. Hope it gets better for him soon.
