Yeah, it's strangely a weight off my shoulders now that it's done, even though I know we've got quite a journey ahead of us. Too bad we aren't sharing the 12th :) oh well, we can still celebrate each month!

Logging off now, really... Need to catch up on some sleep!

Well YAY! I'm glad to hear things went well and you're getting some sleep! This is the scariest part. Barret made it, and you will both be fine on this journey. Lean on this great community and your sanity will stick around! xoxo

So glad the waiting part is over - I think that's almost worse than the first few days home! Best of all is that he came thru it like a pro.

Hope you've gotten some rest. The rest of us on here will continue with the drinking!!

Happy thoughts being sent Barrett's way!

Called in at 8:01 this morning to check on my poor Bearbear.

The report was a good one, the very first thing she said to me when I said I was Barret's mom was "Oh my gosh he is such a sweetheart, and way too cute for his own good". I get that a lot from vets and vet techs because he just wants to love and kiss everyone. So I guess his personality is intact!

She said he was already up and getting around without much help. He ate breakfast like a champ and even went potty outside (I'm not clear on if it was #1 or #2, but YAY FOR POTTYTIME).

They're still keeping him until tomorrow for pain control. I'm glad, but I really want him home. They said I could visit if I thought he would OK when I left, but if I am being honest with myself he would NOT be ok with me leaving, and I'm not sure if I could leave, they might have to throw me out!

I'll just have to be patient and be thankful that he seems to already be adapting with flying colors! They know and are totally OK with me calling every couple of hours to check on him. They're open till 7. But, believe me, the minute they tell me he is ready to come home, I'll drop everything and go!

Thanks for all the support, Heather

Yay.  I am so glad to hear Barrett is doing so well.   Some people do visit but some don't as they know their dogs wouldn't like to see them leave.  I know Sassy would have been one of those.  I didn't have to worry about that as she came home the same day because my vet didn't have overnight care.

Hugs to you.  Sleep while you can and also if you take time off when Bear is recovering sleep while he does it helps.

Best updateclap Barret sounds like he's doing really well-I agree that waiting period during surgery and afterwards is the worst. I was up all night worrying-so happy when I could bring Lily home. Please keep us updated and get some rest!

Joan and Lily

Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.

In your heart, where I belong.

You're getting good news, which is such a relief! You've been here long enough to expect a bit of a setback in a few days, right? And you will think, "I heard about this so I expected it and know Barret's still fine. I won't panic." Right?winker

I didn't visit Dakota. It was strongly suggested that I not, because he probably would have overdone it trying to get to me and climb into my lap. He would have put all 82 pounds of him into my armpit to hide. I was in a hotel near his hospital and just let them update me every few hours.

You're doing great. When Bear is home, love him up. And don't panic if that little blip occurs. Just come to chat!

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.

Yeah, and even if you did go see him, he's so doped up so knows what his reaction would be!! Probably trying to sit on your head thinking he's a hat:-) :-)

Now would be a good time to make another one of those "portraits" you did on your blog........hint....hint......they are so clever and jously whimsical!

Choppy dancing with red rubber balls over here for Barret!

What a great report!  Doesn't it make you just beam with pride when they tell you how much of a sweetheart your animal is?  to be honest, I think they wanted to keep Jill that extra day because they wanted to love on her ;)

I have heard from other dog owners that visiting is a bad thing - to be honest, I wouldn't have done it if Jill was a dog ;)   Cat's dont really have the same separation anxiety, BUT on my third visit, when she was no longer on heavy narcotics, when I left and handed her to the vet tech, she did let out a sad meow and it broke my heart.  So I think you are probably making the right decision by not visiting.

Let me tell you, bringing him home tomorrow, it will be rought, but it's going to be the BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD.  I was so so happy to have my baby back with me.  It really warmed my heart.

Keep us posted!!!

xoxo,

Erica & Jill

This report is GREAT NEWS!!!!

We agree with Erica, visiting isn't a good thing for dogs, unless they're having trouble eating. We've been told by vets that dogs will perk up when they see their humans in a clinical setting, but then as soon as the human leaves they're anxious and upset. It's hard to stay away though, that's for sure.

Hang in there today!

OH MY DOG I JUST GOT THE BEST NEWS EVER!

The vet just called and said that Barret is exceeding ALL expectations and there is no need for him to stay another day/night and I can come get him as soon as I am able to.

I was DANCING in my office. My coworkers think I am cRazY. My heart was doing backflips of joy!!!!!!!!!!!! big-grinbig-grinbig-grin

Trying to chill out now, get a hold of my husband to schedule a time to go get him and also TRYING to remember Dakota Dawg's advice to not freak the heck out when things get tough, as they inevitably will, in the next few days. I will still probably panic, but I will come to chat and the forums when I do laughing

Thank you ALL, your support, thoughts and prayers have definitely helped!

That is awesome news Heather.  Now, remember deep breath when you first see him.  It may shock you a little as he is your baby.  I know you have seen pictures but it still takes our breath away when its our own.  Love him.  And he will be doped up pretty good.

Can't wait to hear more updates
