We are 21 days post-op and Marley seemed to be doing well but the last few days he has lost his appetite again, seems mopey and just wants to our around.

When he does get up he does these really long weird stretches with his remaining hind leg. I’m wondering if he has pulled something or strained something. Going to call the vet tomorrow just wondering if anyone else saw the same regression or weird stretches.

Any suggestions on how to keep that leg from seizing up and keeping him mobile? He’s been off meds for a little over a week now and seemed to be doing so well.

Awww poor Marley. Were you able to talk to the vet?

We often see a little setback like this not long after doing well post-recovery. Usually it's because a dog is doing too much too soon. What's Marley's daily activity level like? Does he play with other dogs? How long are his walks? And do you have slippery floors that he could have slipped on without your knowing?

Try massaging him gently around his neck and lower back /hip muscles to see if he reacts at all. And keep his activity level dialed down until he shows some improvement. Also, you may want to consider taking advantage of our Tripawds Foundation Rehab Reimbursement Program, which will pay for your first rehab visit . This will really help you get to know what kind of activity is good and not good for him, and how to keep him strong and injury free. It does so much good for the Tripawd and the pet parent!

Let us know how he's doing OK? We are keeping our paws crossed that he feels better.

I can second the "too much too soon" pattern, we had a similar mini set back around 3/4 weeks for this same reason. Slowing down, avoiding sand/beach, and lifting Devo into the trunk instead of letting her jump helped. Didn't notice her doing weird stretches but she DID figure out how to do a "down dog" stretch around this same time frame... I wonder if he could be trying to replicate a stretch he did on 4 legs?? We had good luck with a holistic vet who did some chiropractic-like moves to help those sore tripawd muscles. I hope Marley feels better soon!
