We have been contacted a few times now by folks faced with unaffordable treatment options for their pups struck with cancer. We get questions like the following ...
"Do you know of any organization that can help us?"
This just tears us apart, as we truly wish we could help. We usually reply with the following information. Please post a reply to this topic with any other ideas or resources you may have for folks in need of funds to care for their cancer dogs. Thank you.
- Check out the Magic Bullet Fund. I'm not sure if they have any openings in their program right now, but that is exactly what they do -- help those who can't afford cancer care for their dogs.
- Also, look into CareCredit ... It's basically a credit card accepted by many vets. Click on "Doctor Near You" and select Veterinary. You can also calculate payments based on the procedure cost using their website.

Canine Cancer Awareness is dedicated to all those diagnosed and lost to cancer.
In Memory of Magic is helping people help pets.
We just heard about this one:
Through its Foundation, the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) — the first and only companion animal veterinary association — launched the AAHA Helping Pets Fund in 2005 to help those in need access quality veterinary care for sick or injured pets.
With this fund, veterinary care is possible for sick or injured pets even when they have been abandoned or their owners are experiencing financial hardship. The AAHA Foundation trustees envision a future when more pets are saved and more pet owners are grateful. Foundation staff is working every day to make this vision a reality.
Despite the support of many generous donors, the AAHA Helping Pets Fund is struggling with the number of requests for assistance that the country’s economic difficulties have created. We need your help if we are to continue to provide grants.
Please donate today and help provide veterinary treatment to pets in need. Every donation truly makes a difference for struggling families and their beloved pets.
Help us provide for them by making your donation now!

You can also try to raise money through http://www.fundable.com, or rely on the kindness of strangers with http://www.wish.....nahero.com. Although, I have had no luck with either of these sites, maybe you will.
I checked out all the recommended resources for pet owners, and found NOTHING that could assist me. The Magic Bullet fund is not accepting new applications, for example. For the rest, there were many reasons… either I had to be disabled, unemployed, or on a fixed income; some specifically said to not apply if your dog has cancer; one would only assist you if you had a written form from a vet that your dog would die within 10 days if urgent care wasn't provided.
If I wasn't approved for CareCredit, Peanut would not have had her surgery. But the payments are still more than I can afford. I live by the paycheck and have no savings. My monthly expenses just about equal my monthly salary. I pretty much budget down to the dollar. I know I am not alone with this dilemma. I feel for all those pet owners that cannot opt for the best possible treatment because of the cost.
When I learned of Peanut's diagnosis and options, I immediately contacted all my friends and family and asked for small donations. I figured everyone struggles, so if I ask for, say, $5 from each person, it can add up. And we all know every little bit helps.
I also talked to my manager at work, and to businesses around town, to ask if I could place a collection jar in each place. I made a number of coffee-can sized coin drops with pictures of Peanut and a brief description of the situation. Some places turned me away, but some did not. And my work was more than willing to allow it. You never know who's willing to help unless you ask.
I'm also trying to sell the few things of value I have, such as my bicycle.
If anyone else has other fundraising ideas, I'd love to hear them.

This is all good to know, thanks for letting us know how your search went. And I'm so sorry that it wasn't very fruitful, that really stinks. Which one said not to apply if your dog has cancer? That really bites. We should know who it was, so we can take it off the site if we have it listed.
Your tanacity is so impressive to go out there and put a collection jar in places! That is a pawesome idea! Where did you put them?
The one suggestion I can think of is, what about asking your vet for any free samples of meds that Peanut needs? I mean human docs get tons of them, I wonder if vets do too?

I'll have to try to remember what websites I've tried, and get back to you. I remember going down a list of suggestions from a site (maybe this one?) and bookmarking them all. Then I went through each one. When I realized I somehow didn't match the criteria, I deleted the bookmarks. Wish I didn't, because maybe they'll come in handy someday. Meh.
For the collection jars: There's a jar at a local hotel front desk, a pizza shop, a gas station/convenience store, and 2 at my place of work (there are 2 separate office areas). My mom has helped place one at her local gym and one at her place of employment.
That'll have to do. I"m just glad some people said yes.

Have you asked your vet if there are any local charities that can help? In our area there are 3 different animal groups that can help chip in money towards surgeries, etc. I do not think they would help with chemo but they have helped pay for many an amputation. Also ask your vet about scripting out some meds. I get Tazzie's meloxicam (generic Metacam) from a human pharmacy for $4 a month and many other drugs like antibiotics or even chemo pills are often much cheaper for the large breeds if scripted out. Most vets should not have problems doing this for you if you are an established client.

Here is a new, awesome comprehensive list of resources to help those in need pay for veterinary care:

Just came across a couple more organizations working to help those who need financial assistance fighting cancer with their dogs:

The folks at Save-an-Angel are working hard to help not only cancer dogs and their families, but also promoting rescues. We had the opportunity to have dinner with Kristie and Johnny the last time we were in New Orleans. Very nice, very compassionate young couple.
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.
The November Five - Spirits Max, Cherry, Tika, Trouble & Nova. 11/2008 - 3/2013 An era ends as Queen Nova crossed the Bridge.
GimpyDogs also has an extensive list of organizations that may be able to provide assistance for canine healthcare:

Hi all!
I just wanted to throw Smudgie's Gifts into the mix of funds available to assist with veterinary costs. This fund is available through LoveyLoaves Inc, a pet advocacy and wellness non profit based in East Orlando, FL. With a focus on assisting with the needs of "specially-abled" dogs, LoveyLoaves Inc educates on responsible pet ownership, the importance of spaying and neutering, the benefits of microchipping, and many other pet related topics.
You can also visit us on Facebook.
Thanks!
