Hi, all! Our 7 year old flat coated retriever is going in for a front left leg amputation tomorrow morning due to what we believe is osterosarcoma. (Full pathology forthcoming).

I'd like some good to come from this sadness and would love to donate any useful samples or tissue from Ursa's leg to any interested research studies. Unfortunately, the Modiano Institute is no longer accepting samples. And while I am sending Ursa's blood to the Broad Institute to help with their Canine Genome Project - I would love to know if any of you are aware of opportunities for donating samples to research.

Thanks for your help!

Ashley

Have you tried contacting a Flat-Coated Retriever breeder association?  They might have some useful contacts for you.

Sorry to hear that your pup is dealing with this dreaded disease...

Hi Ashley, good luck to you and Ursa tomorrow. What a sweet thing to consider at such an emotional time!

I would contact the Morris Animal Foundation or Colorado State University's Argus Institute, they might know. Also, scroll through our Resources page for the clinical trials we have listed. You may want to contact a vet teaching hospital near you too. Good luck, let us know what you find.
