Hi, everyone:
I thought Blumi was that one dog that was going to beat the odds. She did fabulously after amputation, chemo, metronomic protocol.
But yesterday, at her one year checkup they found 2 spots on her lungs. In desperation I agreed to trying Palladia on top of the Leukeran/metacam regimen she is already on, but I still don't like the odds.
Has anyone tried the chinese herbals recommended at http://pathwith.....-and-cats/ ?
What else can I do? I will not resign myself to the inevitable. Not yet. The vet at the cancer hospital didn't really give me any other options
Dang cancer, I'm so sorry to hear about the mets. I know it really knocks the wind out of you when you hear that news, but don't lose hope, many dogs go on to live a long time with mets. You just never know, all you can do is your best to keep them behaving themselves.
Dr. McCullough is an awesome vet. I wouldn't hesitate to follow her protocol for controlling lung mets. Did you catch this recorded interview with her on Tripawd Talk Radio?

I'm sorry about the mets. The one year mark is when we found Libby's as well. I don't have much to offer other than blumi can thrive for a long time even with the mets. Take care.

Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13. Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14. She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self. Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14
Thank you, Amy, for the encouragement. I guess I had been so firmly in denial and strong in my conviction that we had caught the cancer in time, and that she was "cured" that the news hit me really hard. But we're not ready to give up and will soldier on.
(Blumi is her happy self; she had ice cream the day we got the bad news, and yesterday she got to eat a fast food burger --- but today it's back to a healthier regimen)

ICE CREAM AND FAST FOOD? Yep, Happy Hannah certainly believed in the medicinelquality of those very important food groups!,
And ABSOLUTELY Blumi is still winning this battle!, She's feeling strong and happy, not showing any symptons...all good signs!, The mets may not affect her at all .....If at al.....for a very, very long time!
And the "inevitable"...HA! You can kick that word to the curb! No one has a time frame stamped on their head...certainly not Blumi!
If there is one suggestion I can offer is to c I nine to stay in the moment!! This "test" has changed NOTHING I. Blum I'm world and that is all that matters!, Do NOT let that piece of crab disease rob you of one second of your sacred time with Blumi!! She sure isn't!!
Anchor yourself M I to living in the now......every time Blumi wags her tail, use that as a reminder to stay in the present with Blumi! But notes up all around the house reminding yourself you will let NOTHING interfere with your time together!! Oh, and look for the one Blumi just wrote.....it says something like remember to give her one scoop of ice cream a day!,
A d just a little side note...Some here have had issues with dogs not n tolerating Palladia so just be aware and take her off IF you see any issues.

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Personally I would not give any herbal remedies to my dog unless prescribed by a licensed holistic vet. Herbs are not regulated and often contaminated with microorganisms, toxins, and even drugs. Herbs can also interact with medications and cause serious consequences.
Though you probably feel desperate to find a cure and help your baby, let a vet decide. Do you have access to a holistic vet?
