Has anyone put together a list of the legs which are filled and/or who is willing to do what?
See post 35 above. We thought we had this all figured out then descovered we need to get Baggins from Taos to Sant Fe.

Janie, just sent an email to Dawn to introduce her to Elaine (potential ride from Taos to Santa Fe), in New Mexico. I also talked to Elaine on the phone, she's willing to help. Thanks so much for putting us in touch with her.
Stay tuned…..

Paydirt!
I have 3 offers:
A pilot called and he can fly to Taos to get Baggins and take him to the airport in Sante Fe. He would need ground support and Baggins would have to stay at maybe VCC for pickup, as the pilot has to do this around 10-11am.
Also, a Stray Hearts shelter employee is going to Sante Fe in the morning and can take Baggins to the direct meetup. But she's going to a doctor appt at 3:15pm (the meetup was approx 3pm), so she would be in a bind if they run late...
And Bassett Rescue is looking at trying to reroute the trip through Taos if possible. They also have to stop in Raton. I don't know the layout on this, but she's working on it...
One way or another, we can pull this off!
I am going to type up a Railroad itinerary for all in a moment...
Dawn
Rottie Raven, osteosarcoma at 8-1/2 years old, amputation in October '09 and in February '10 due to liver mets he went back to heaven where he came from. raven.tripawds.com
Now I have Miles, rottie mix amputee from a shelter and traveled 1500 miles to find his way here through the Rescue Railroad thanks to tripawds.com. miles.tripawds.com
Baggins' Itinerary for the Rescue Railroad!
1) Stray Hearts Animal Shelter in Taos, NM - shelter employee Maria taking him to Sante Fe Thursday afternoon.
2) Meetup with Basset Hound Rescue on their run from ABQ to Colorado Springs Thursday.
3) Mary and Ted - Nikki's Pawrents - in Colorado Springs will foster him for the night Thursday and transport to Ft. Collins Friday morning.
4) Jim and Rene - aka Jerry and admin - transport to Salt Lake City Friday and spending the night there.
5) Jennifer Bunker - Senior Dog Rescuer and Railroad volunteer located through Facebook - Will meetup with Jim in SLC Saturday morning and transport to Elko, NV.
6) This part is still in planning. I will drive the 13 hour round trip to Elko if necessary to get him to my place, his final destination in Auburn, CA. But--I have a lead on a Bulldog Rescue's friend that lives in Elko and can transport to Winnemucca, NV. He will meet up with the Bully owner friend of mine that will transport him from Winnemucca to Reno, NV (where she lives), on Saturday.
7) I will then go to pick up my new boy in Reno if not Elko Saturday night or Sunday morning. I will undoubtedly be an emotional mess, crying, laughing, the whole dang thing!
THANK YOU to the literally 100's of people that it took to make this happen!

Awesome!!
Like many rural shelters (or most shelters, is my guess), Stray Hearts is a stressful environment for the dogs and cats. I see Baggins was there for about 2 months. I would think he'd be a bit scared and stressed during transport, so those of you who have the joy of being with him, give him some love from me.
And let us know how its going!!
Beth
Beth with my beloved Tshuvah, 10 year old "TaosDog". Provisional diagnosis osteosarcoma on 6/10/10, amputation of left foreleg same day, firm diagnosis of hemangiosarcoma 6/24/10. Set free on 9/9/10. Treasured forever.

Is it settled? Done? I didn't do anything!
And I was hoping to make a switch-a-roo without anyone noticing! I was sure Dawn wouldn't say a peep if she got a 4-legged terrier mix type dog instead (with a monkeybutt) since everyone was being so helpful! I had it all figured out!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.

Love, love, love the MB's!
Yes, it's all settled, he leaves in the morning for his adventure to a new life. He was found as a stray and nobody came to claim him. Nobody wanted to adopt him because he has 3 legs. He has no mets, good hips and ACL's, no hardware in the xrays. What a mystery this boy is as to why he had an amputation and why his owners didn't come to find him. But now he will travel through life and touch a whole lot of people, bless his heart.
Thank you for offering to help! Hey, maybe you can make the cool video that will result... 😉

He is such a gorgeous boy too, and looks like he will take good care of you Dawn, just like you will take good care of him!!!

Dave just called and said he's an awesome dog and "someone" is going to be very lucky to get him.
ETA 5pm to Raton to hand off to Dean."
This is so exciting!!!!
