When I come to the forums the page shows my avatar and says I'm logged in. However it also tells need to log in to post anything. If I'm logged in as it says with my avatar why do I have to log in again to post? I am active on over a dozen forums and this is the only one that tells me I'm logged in but still makes me login a second time to post.

You don't have to Jim, have you tried posting without logging in a second time? You shouldn't have to do it twice. Ignore the button and see what happens.
Yes, that button is confusing, we are working on a way to eliminate it but it's part of a plug-in and not so easy to remove. We're always working on making it easier.

It's obvious the site knows who I am so why do I need to login any way?
Identifying you as a returning user and extending privileges available only to logged in users are two different things.
You will know you are logged in if you see your black admin bar across the very top of every page ofevery Tripawds site, with "tripawds at top left and "Howdy, bigjim" next to your avatar at top right. Atop the forums, you will also see "Logged in as bigjim" next to your avatar.
If you do not see these items, you are not logged in.
