Day 12 PUPDATE

Hi everyone!!

So, is it possible for doggos to regress on Day 12? Lyla seems a little depressed today. Not wanting to get up a whole lot and just out of sorts. I did bring her upstairs today and she wagged and wagged her tail. I think she missed being up there with me. I try and spend as little time upstairs as possible, but that's where my work computer is so I don't have any other choice.

Just wondering if anyone else's pup went through this?

As always, thank you for all the support and encouragement.

It is soooo easy to do a little miscle tweak here and there this early in recovery....especially  for big cuddly gals. We do see it often.

Try continuing with massages up and down her spine and neck and shoulder area.  If you still jave some Rimadyl (or antiinflmmatory) maybe give her a dose of thst....only after checking  with the Vet of course.

All other "systems" seem spot on....eating, drinking, pottying, tail wagging, so all that is good.

Keep us posted.

Hugs

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

PS. And no, I won't  be the one to suggest keeping her from getting on the couch.  I dont  have enoigh "touch love" in me.  Besides, she does ot with so little effort and with such ease.  But we'll see what others might say.

Hmm well I'd say that it's possible she is just tired from working so hard at recovery. Or she tweaked something. We all have our off days right? During recovery there's even more of them. I wouldn't say that the couch is the problem, she steps up there so easily it's not like she could have gotten injured. If the behavior continues I'd let your vet know.

Day 14 PUPDATE!

Lyla is doing fantastic.

She is having her first session of chemo as I type this. The surgeon took her stitches out and our Oncologist said she looks great. She said the cancer in the leg had not spread to the lymphatic system in the leg, which is apparently good news. I'm being very cautiously optimistic.

The swelling in Lylas leg and paw was caused by her surgical shirt she was wearing. It was cutting off her circulation at night, which is why it was always so swollen in the morning. I took it off her yesterday and the swelling is gone!

My brother came over for a visit yesterday and she was so excited to see him that she jumped on him, one leg and all.

Hoping she does ok with the chemo. It's Carbopentin (I'm not sure if that's even the right word)!

Will keep everyone posted, but so far so good.

YAYfor stitches out!  Geez, bummer about the cause of the leg swelling, but glad you got it figured  out.

Yeah, Carboplaten is the chemo generally used and fee, of any side effects.  Sometimes  a little nausea  which they'll give you Cerenia and maybe a little "blah" and off food for a day or two.  And sometimes  no issues at all!

We need another picture.  You know thst, right?  We just love this gal♥️

What a big day! That's wonderful you are moving ahead without a hitch.

Yes as Sally mentioned, Carboplatin is generally easy on dogs. Side effects that do show up are generally either right away, like within 24 hours, or about 4-5 days later (yeah, weird!). But knowing Lyla, she's not going to have any! Paws crossed.

That is soooo smart about the circulation issue with the recovery shirt! Oh my gosh I will need to remember that one next time someone mentions the remaining limb swelling up. Thank you for mentioning it.

DAY 15 PUPDATE:

No more pain meds for Lyla!

Also, I read her pathology report and the appears that the cancer is not as aggressive as first thought. The report uses words like "not as aggressive", "slow metastasis", "longer survival". I've told myself that Lyla no longer has cancer and that we got rid of it with the leg.

Photo is of little sister making sure big sis is ok!

No visible side effects from chemo yet.

Will keep all updated!

Ohhhh. myyyyy goodness!  My heart goes pitter patter with every photo I see of Lyla and her pack!!-

And I really like the way you are processing that pretty darn  pawsitive  report.  That crap went with the leg and Lyla is a fine, fit healthy  smokable Mastiff soaking up the spoiling  and loving!

Thanks for the update AND photo!

Oh man that is great news on the report! I agree with Sally, you are processing it so well and focusing on the pawsitive aspects. You are just as pawesome as Lyla!

Super happy to see this fantastic news. Thanks for our daily Lyla photo fix too!

Surprised Diva Lyla allows Lacy on "her" couch.  Or do you have two couches, one for each of them and you sit on the floor?🤪  As it should be😉

Beautiful,  beautiful pics.  Cannot stop smiling with every picture  of Lyla and Lacey.  Gorgeous  dogs,

Hello to All!!!!

Sorry haven't been around for a while, Christmas is such a busy time for us!

Happy to report that my Lyla is almost 7 week post amputation and is doing absolutely amazing. She is adjusting so well to being a tripawd and is back to life as normal.

She's had her second round of chemo yesterday and so far so good. No side effects so far.

Lyla is such a happy girl and I'm taking every single moment I have with her and cherishing her.

Here's a video from today!

To all following her story and are new to amputation, let me tell you I don't regret my decision for one second!!
