Peppy and excited for breakfast...YAAAAAAY! Was really hoping for improvement today and that is definitely improvement!!!!!👏👍
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Be sure and check out the response from "Ask a Vet".
It does seem like draining gmoff the fluid would be helpful. Other suggestions were made too. So now may be the time to go to another Vet/Onco since you have more clarity on what might be going on. Uou can also ask the Onco about mushroom therapy which can be helpful if it is hermangio. The Prednisone seems to still be doing a good job, so that's good!

Yes I saw the reply from the vet. Again I love this site and SO happy i've found it. It truly is amazing and thank you all so much, you really have helped ease my mind at times and i'm so glad I have a place to come and ask questions 🙂
Winnie has been amazing all day today, I thought she was almost dying yesterday and today is complete opposite! When the vet did drain some of the fluid off she said it was quite bloody which "Ask the Vet" said was not great. I don't think there is an Oncologist near me...
We go back to the vet in a few weeks so see if the fluids gone down with the new meds.
Winnie is definitely doing things Winnie''s way and has no interest in listening to any gloom and doom from anybody!
So happy she has bounced back today! Aure, as you've already seen there me be some good days, and less good days sometimes, but now you can sort of relax j to the new normal knowing a tweak of meds here or there can have a positive impact.
So the med she is on is to help take off some of the fluid, so that's really good! .
Now, you have a task to do everyday. You have to fig out how to spoil her even more than the day before! That's gonna be hard cuz I think she's already spoiled and loved in a way most dogs could only dream about😎😎

We've upped Winnies meds last week to twice daily, Gabapentin (300mg x2 daily), Prednisone (50mg x2 daily) and Furosemide (20mg x2 daily). She's acting ok, panting lots and her eyes seem to bug out/wide eyed but is getting around good. Going back to the vet September 8th to check X-rays/fluid in chest to see if the Furosemide is working. Still eating and drinking, though doesn't eat as soon as I put her food down like normal, but I hand feed her and she eats it all, SPOILED 🙂 but i don't mind!
Wondering if maybe she's on too many meds and that's making her look like she's tripping out?
I'm so glad she's eating like the queen that she is! That's great.
The panting and wide eyes sounds like a prednisone side effect to me. I would let the vet know so they can tweak the dosage, hopefully that'll do it.
You forgot to share pictures! We'd love to see your sweet girl 🙂

Yeah, ditto Jerry about the panting and bug eyes probably tied in to the Prednisone.
Hasn't Winnie jbeennon the 50 mg 2 x a day since Aug 6th, or just started last week? Obviously any tapering at all, has to be done sloooowly and only with Bet guidance.
So two scenarios I'm wondering about. Ask your Vet about ONE dose a day at may bit lower dose. Or, ask about sticking with the two doses, but at a little lower amount.
So definitely let the Bet know, especially the "bug eyes". Have no clue, but would think hat could cause some discomfort.
Winnie still has good quality and of course, that's what's important.
And the hand feeding and then she eats....love it!! She's enjoying her "family time" while she eats. And clearly you're enjoy it too. So sweet♥️

Took Winnie to the vet yesterday as she was having difficulty breathing and wouldn't lie down, sitting seemed to be the only "comfortable" position. On two new meds, one more to help with the fluid/relax her and one to dilate her airways. She seemed a tiny bit better last evening, had a good snooze. Today she's still panting heavily and can't seem to get comfortable. Vet said these meds were going to be our last hope. I think we have a decision to make 🙁
Ohhhhh you guys, I'm sorry that you might be at this point. Judging quality of life is a tough thing. So it it not an option to reduce the Pred dosage to see if that helps? Or give her the Gabapentin 3x daily? If it's a matter of pain control, that's likely a different scenario than managing the fluid issues. When the vet mentioned that the meds were your last hope, did s/he mean that about the fluid control or everything? I'm guessing you probably went over all this with your vet but just throwing things out there in case it was missed.
I'm in the Tripawds Chat for a bit if you are still here and want to talk.

Thanks for the update. We are all cheering for sweet Winnie and hoping for the best for her...whatever that may be♥️
For now, just give the meds a chance to work, okay?
Ask the Bet how ilong it should take for the meds to kick in. That can help upu assess the situation day by day.
You've seen a "little" improvement AND, probably most importantly, she got some good rest last night, so that's good.
You've always put Winnie's best interest at the forefront of every decision you've made. And we know your love for her is so strong you will continue to do that.♥️

The vet said she would like to improvement within 24 hours, it's been longer than that and this afternoon she seems worse. She's been sitting up in the same spot for over and hour now panting, drooling a bit and sometimes her teeth grind. I think she's having trouble swallowing because she hasn't been drinking much water and when she does she takes little bits at a time. I can't get her to even take her pills thats she due for this evening. She said these pills were the last hope for all the issues...
Keep your Vet in the loop, okay? Ask about any side effects of the "airway" med.
My connection is going haywire right now cant keep my screen.....will try back in a bit. Hugs and love

Hopefully my connection will hold.
Cant give any specific insight into the drugs, ut what they are supposed to do certainly seems suitable for her situation.
Don't know if you can get your hands on some baby food, or even pudding or yogurt to help get the pills down?
Please know you are doing EVERYTHING possible for her....EVERYTHING! We hope with all our heart this helps, but no matter what. she knows she is loved and that's really all that matters. Not the days on the calendar, but just making every day be one filled with love and spoiling and more love. And goodness knows your love for her knows no limits.♥️
And whenever the time does come to celebrate her back "home", she will run free and will breathe in fresh air fully and effortlessly and will have no pain.....just sheer joy for knowing she had the best earth life any dog could possibly have!
Hoping the meds kick in and you🤞
Give her some smooches for us, okay?
Love and hugs
