Hello Everyone

My yellow lab Samson had his back left leg amputed over a year ago due to a bone infection..It had to be removed at the hip. The problem is his other back leg has OCD in his hock and it is slowly getting worse. He just turned nine. He is the most happy amazing dog in the world (I know we all say that lol)... He has a wheel chair and a brace for the other leg for his walks etc.... He loves them and always smiles. Inside the house he gets around without the brace and wheel chair . The problem is that back leg is getting worse...We do not want to lose him over the back leg.. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of a prosthetic for a back leg on a three legged large dog. We are looking for something to help Samson live longer but also a happy life..Help, looking for some answers. Thanks everyone

Hi Samson & Family, welcome to Tripawds. Your future posts won't require approval.

Ok, so what is "OCD" in terms of a leg issue? I mean I know it usually means Obsessive Compulsive Disorder so I think you might be describing another type of condition that starts with O, like "OSA" for osteosarcoma?

Has a doctor diagnosed his condition? What are their recommendations?

OCD could also mean osteochondritis dissecans (or osteochondral defect, also, but I'm guessing it's the condition rather than the arthritic lesion)...

In that case...can he use a wheelchair permanantly? If it gets worse, I mean? For mobility, and then manage the pain with meds and therapy?

Are you using meds and/or any PT or acupuncture to help with it right now?

I have discovered that a lifetime of orthopedic conditions and surgeries has prepared me for all sorts of esoteric trivia :D
