Have been meaning to share -

Our dog Moose is a Great Dane - English Pointer mix and was about 110 lbs before amputation back in March. (Now 86!) He had his front leg amputated.

He's very athletic and strong, but being heavy and tall was very challenging right after surgery for both him and us. We tried all the harness recommended, and when nothing was working, we remembered we had his Ruffwear Float Coat life jacket in the garage (link below - this brand is the most sturdy life jacket we've come across for this purpose). It was a total game changer for us, especially in the days and weeks right after surgery.  He eventually was able to run wildly on his own again. 🙂

The handle placement and sturdy, stiffer piece around his front leg/neck let us help him up and support him while relearning to walk. We would hold the handle at first for max control and leverage, and then added a heavy duty steel carabiner on the handle so that a short leash could be clipped to it so we could keep him from falling while also giving him more ability to move on his own. Be aware, it is like a jacket, so it's very hot compared to other harnesses. Our dog liked this when it was cool out, but it could be dangerous during a summer walk if a dog wore it for too long in the sun.

This is so nice of you to share, thanks! You're the second person I recall who has used the Float Coat in place of a harness. Please feel free to leave a Float Coat Review in the Tripawds Gear Shop!

Not sure what the other two links are, I can't get them to appear.
