Hello, my 11 year old Corgi, Bandit has a recurring tumor in his leg. After 5 surgeries the vet said the leg skin is too tight for another surgery. He suggested amputation or to put him to sleep. Bandit is a very happy but overweight puppy. Does anyone know if a 3d or prostetic limb is possible? I am reading some very valuable advice on this site. Thanks for any help you can offer.

What kind of tumor does Bandit have?
Overweight can be fixed- it takes time and commitment. I've been there- I've had pugs for years and all they have to do is walk through the kitchen to gain weight. Losing a back leg is a bit easier, especially with an overweight dog. When do you have to make your decision? Do you have time to get his weight down before you would amputate?
As far as prosthetic- they pretty much need to be planned before surgery so enough leg is left. In general a pup needs two functioning joints for a prosthetic to work. Depending on where the tumor is located would probable determine if a prosthetic is a possibility for Bandit.

Other than the tumor and weight issue how is Bandit's overall health? Does your vet think he would be a good candidate for amputation?
