His Appetite is good, drinking good; Just alot more panting and seems to be more ouchy on the side they did the Amputation on.They removed his sutures today also. Said everything is looking great he's just panting alot more tonight, seems to be more ouchy on the side they did the Amputation on and moving a little slower. His primary vet just refilled his Gabapentin Saturday. Tinys been on the Gabapentin & Rimadyl since before surgery and thats what they kept him on after surgery. They didn't specify if he was to have his meds before Chemotherapy today so I didn't give it to him and when I got him there I told the little tech that he hadn't gotten it this morning due to them not addressing it in the instructions for today, thats when she said with him being 2 weeks post surgery and the tumor that was causing the pain being gone, he possibly wouldn't need it at this point..but, my thoughts are although the tumor is gone He still just had Amputation just 2 weeks ago. Im going to go ahead and try to call them and let them know how he's doing. I personally feel he still needing it some and I also want to ask with him being on it for the past month if he should just stop it vs weaning down. Hopefully someone will return my call tonight. Thank you all so much for all your advise and support

Yeah, agree. he is "talking" to you and "showing" you he's uncomfortable.  My Happy Hannsh was on pain meds for a put gres weeks.  There really is no " magic" o e size fits all when it comes to how long a dog should  take pain meds.   anf "usually", bigger do gs do need meds a bit longer.

So disregard their off the cuff comment because  it just doesn't

They told me this morning he "Shouldn't" need his pain meds at this point, so he hasn't had ANY today but..Hes up and down and panting more than usual.

I think once you get him back on a consistent  dose and frequency,  you'll see that he feels better.  You can try a reduced dose twice a day if you feel like that works for him.  But if his previous dose was working as prescribed by your Vet before today's comment, then you can proceed with that another couple of days before you reduce it.

Lots of smooches and lots of massages to ight for that.big boy!!  You get some rest too!

We were typing at the same time.  Just saw you newest update.

And yes, it is recommended  that Gaba6entin be tapered off, and especially  if he was on it a month before amputation.

The Incision  ay br a little sore with stitch removal.   Additionally,  because of being in a cage or kennel it may have caused him to lay in a so ehat uncomfortable position....especially  of ot meant laying on his incision  side.

My Happy Ha. Ah took about five weeks before she would lay on that side comfortably!  That was an u usually long time when comparing g to others..but it was "normal" for her to need that extra time..

Go with your gut, you know him best. You are being a great advocate by calling to chat with your vet about his pain levels (and ditto, you don't want to suddenly stop Gabapentin or it can result in severe rebound pain).

I'm so glad all other things about his recovery look good. Yay Tiny!

Tiny is now resting..snoring at that..lol. The Dr called me back and confirmed it was ok to continue his meds, so Tiny got supper & his meds and he is now resting comfortably. I'm definitely going to try to get myself some much needed rest while he is resting. Please continue to keep our sweet Boy in all yalls prayers. Thank you all so much for all the support & advise.

I did get a call back from the Vets later the other night and they confirmed it was ok to still give Tiny his pain Meds; that was good because I had already went ahead and gave them to him and he rested MUCH better afterwards; He did get his Burgers 🍔😊💖; He seems to be doing fine, we are on day 2 after receiving the Chemotherapy on Monday afternoon. Hes eating, drinking, seems to be feeling ok, a little sleepy but his meds can cause drowsiness. His stools are ok, just a little softer than normal at times but they have been that way some and it seems to corolalate with Hospital visits so I'm thinking maybe stress/anxiety related. We are currently hanging out on the porch enjoying some fresh air and SUNSHINE 🌞. They told me "IF" He is going to have any side effects they are generally mild GI things and occur around day 3 to 5 (I think they said anyways) so we are praying he sails through without any. He goes back this coming Monday to check labs and then again the following Monday to check them again. They removed his sutures Monday as well as labs before the Chemotherapy and said everything looked Great. Overall Tiny has done GREAT throughout everything and we are praying he continues to excel. Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers & support

Right now I'm feeling a little more relaxed about this Journey we are on; We are just taking things One day at a time & enjoying the Blessings that Tiny is now less painful & seems Happy; I know some of the things in my last post I've already posted about but when I was writing my update I thought I would just put everything together from the past couple days for everyone. I honestly am so Thankful we were referred here to Tripawds. I come here daily & read the stories etc and the best thing is the support from everyone as well as the vast amount of knowledge and resources. I know we've only been a part of this community for a short time but in that time It feels like I'm with "Family" and I & Tiny are so Thankful for everyone & everything.
