Hello All, I joined this site on advise of Riley's oncologist 18 months ago. He's had two de clumping operations and as much as they were successful the tumour is taking over now. He's just had a CT scan and all his other organs are good with no sign of arthritis in any other limbs. Its his front leg. I will ALWAYS do what is right for him but i was just asking if anyone had a dog, Lurcher, of this age that has been through this major surgery. He's a fantastic boy, bright, fun and naughty. Any advise and i would be so very grateful. Thank you.

Hi Riley and family, welcome. Your future posts won't need to be approved so post away. Who is your oncologist that recommended you? We are so honored!

There are so many dogs who have lost a leg at an older age, lots of examples in our community! Brownie is a great example, a true inspawration. Billy is another one. Loki and Lady are two more pawesome three legged senior dogs. This forum where you posted is a great place to look for stories about more senior Tripawd dogs.

In general they do really, really well, especially lean breeds like Lurchers. It sounds like your vet thinks he's a good candidate for surgery? If so that's great! Riley seems to have a lot of good times left to enjoy so if the vets agree that he would be fine on three legs, there's no reason why he wouldn't. Surgery recovery isn't the most fun time but it's very temporary and odds are that Riley will bounce back to his old self in a matter of a couple weeks. Sometimes it takes longer for older dogs, but they get there!

Pitchers are very unique special pips!  I've  had the privilege of meeting two  in person😎

We also had a very handsomeLircher boy named POFI who flourished on three like a Champ!  I've emailed Pofi's Mom Losa, so hopefully  she'll pop jn and share her experiences  with her voy.  And yes, the two Lirchers I've met were Lisa's.  She also is the Fou der of aLurcher project, so she's a wealth  of info.

Stay connected  and know that we are right here by your side the whole way!  We would LOVE to see pictures.  Here's a link to help
