Bummer abput Baxter's back issue. And yes, good for you for noticing his "jump up on the couch" routine was looking off.
IfI recall, Stacy said that about Baxter being afraid you would give him up in the first phone call here on the site. Goodness know he ought to feel secure with you by now. It could be that he was "adopted" and returned several times back to shelters. Guess he was just waiti g for you. Goodness knows, he sure doesn't seem to be a "problem" dog with issues! Well, unless he's stuck behind a gate at your parents' hoise!
That comment avout Baxter bei g worried about his sibling...very interest. Akes me think there's another pup waiting to be adopted thst is a relative of Baxter! Could be a lot of things. Maybe he's worried about YOU! Are you taking care of yourself?
David!! Picture!!! You know we need our Baxter fix!!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Baxter lovey, try not to worry your Dad! I think we can all promise you that your Dad in NEVER going to give you up! You were chosen by your best angel sibling and you are there to be your Dad’s best friend!
Please take care of your back buddy, I think it’s more likely that Rocky is worried about you!!! Your Dad has your back lovey, both physically and mentally speaking!
Love to all! 😘

Good news. Baxter is back to being himself tonight. Hopefully this was just a hiccup and he's still good when he comes off his meds.
Jerry: The vet said it may be some sort of disc disease. She said it's fairly common. Or, he may have just pulled a muscle. He does jump around a lot.
Sally: The call with Stacy was a few days before I adopted Baxter. She did say last week that Rocky was thrilled I had Baxter and that Rocky definitely had a paw in bringing him to me.
Petra: Thanks! I hope Stewie had a fantastic birthday. I'm going to head over to his thread now.

What a great way to kick off Friday, thanks for the happy news!
Hopefully it's a fluke, but if it isn't it sounds like your vet is good at keeping an eye on things. IF it is a long-term issue, I'll bet regular chiro and acupuncture sessions would be beneficial and keep him limber.
Paws crossed he continues feeling great when he goes off the pain meds.

Baxter has been off his meds for a week and seems to be doing fine. So hopefully whatever the back issue was is behind us (no pun intended).
Since Sally requested a photo, here's one from a few weeks ago with Baxter and Cuddle Clone Rocky.

HOLY SMOKES!!! I HAD TO DO A DOUBLE...TRIPLE TAKE AND CLEAR ANY POSSIBLE COBWEBS IN MY HEAD!! For a brief second, my heart saw Rocky and Baxter together in the "physical" form. Then my brain said thst couldn't be possible, could it?
This photo speaks volumes on so many levels!! Baxter knows who Rocky is. After all, Rocky is the one who told him you were going to be the one to give him the best furever home a dog could ever have! Very sweet
So glad to hesr Baxter is all better. Great news!! 🙂
Hugs

We're cursed when it comes to right front legs.
Torn dew claw. Torn to the point that the vet was able to yank it out without sedation. Baxter played it up for sympathy (and cookies), hopping around the vet's office afterward. I was like "dude, you have no idea how much worse it can be. At least you get to keep your leg!"
Bandage only has to stay on for a bit. But he's on anti-inflammatories and antibiotics for a few days now.

Awwwww poor thing! Is his other dewclaw attached or unattached? I know in our world that is minimal but in his world WOOF papa... That freaking hurt!!!
On the other hand... Smile... He is just so adorable, nice to get a pic of him. Hope everything else is going well for you guys!

OOOOMMMMDDDDD!!! That expression on Baxter's face is melting my heart. Poor boy looks so sad! He definitely has astered "the poor pitiful me" look. I'm aure it is a throbbing pain though.
Yeah Baxter, as your Dad said, it could be a lot worse! You just lost a claw, not your leg!
I keep sscrolling back to look at that sad sack face. Even his ears have the "poor pitiiful me" position. He sure is milking it!
Cookies, definitely lots of cookies for yiu sweet boy!

Looking at the picture, the one on the left leg does look loose too. But he lets me touch it without yelping and hasn't been licking it, so I think it's OK. I don't really want to go through that again. Just hearing him yelp when the vet touched it was enough for me. Thankfully they took him to the back to remove it.
He's definitely playing it up a bit. When I go to the pantry, he perks up looking for a cookie.

Ouuuuch! Glad it was "just" a dew claw but I imagine that really hurt. Poor kid!

When you wiggle it, feel where it meets with the leg. If it's just skin holding it there, it's considered "unattached" if there is anything that resembles cartilage or bone and it isn't just hanging by skin it is considered "attached". If it's unattached, and it gets caught up on things, whenever he goes in for something like a dental, when they anesthetize him they can snip it and suture it pretty easily and cheap. We did lots of those if they were unattached and floppy when we did their neuter so they wouldn't get into trouble and rip them off.
Just something to keep in the back of your head for down the road😉

Thanks Jackie!
I'm kind of squeamish about nails in general. Rocky tore one of his dew claws years ago and any time he'd lick his paws it would freak me out thinking he may have torn it again. I'm sure that trend will follow now with Baxter. So if it is unattached and there's a chance to "fix" it, I'll definitely look into it and ask about it whenever he gets his teeth cleaned.
