Hey all!

Tough time for us to have our internet down, but we're back up and running. Flash had his stitches out Wednesday, and has been amazing! I'm really glad we didn't have any complications, especially without being able to contact all our tripawd friends.

We've been bringing him for walks daily, started with very short ones, then went up to about 8 blocks.. and this evening thought we'd bring him ON-leash to the dog park. Well, seeing how there were only a few very good dogs there, and how much he wanted to be off, we let him off for 5 minutes.. you should have seen him RUN!!!! It was incredible, and so comical, his ears go in circles, as does his tail. He's enjoying a very well-deserved nap on the couch right now, but we were all so happy to see him take off.. he himself seemed so happy to be running and not in pain.

I think it's gonna be all uphill from here!  superstar

I'm so happy to hear about Flash! An 8 block walk is awesome superstar  I think I would have trouble getting Sadie to walk 8 blocks with FOUR legs! I'm glad he's doing well. Keep up the good work!

Hogs and sloppy Sadie kisses,

Lisa and Sadie

Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end.  On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

Super! Duper!

I'll never forget how hoppy I was the first time I went back to the beach (my most favorite place on earth). The ability to run and play again without pain was unforgettable!

We're all so glad that Flash is doing so well. Remember not to overdo it though, we want him in good health for many years to come!

Thanks for the update!

Great news about Flash!  I am glad he is doing well and recovering without complications.  It sounds like you are doing a good job limiting his avtivity.  You sure don't want to let him do too much.

Thanks for the good news.

Great news about Flash! Aren't our tripawds just so amazing? You are definitely right - it's all uphill from here! Way to go Flash! cool

My sweet golden Mackenzie.  She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2  although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home.  She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009.  She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes.  I love you Mackenzie!

Hey everyone

Flash is doing great (one month ampuversary was the 18th), but every once in a while he'll just let out a small 'yelp'. Not sure if he's in any kind of pain like I was after my surgery this spring, when the nerves in the muscles were reconnecting.. felt like a jolt of electricity or something. Has anyone else had their dog do this? He'll just be lying on the couch, then yelp, then be fine(?). For those not aware, his amputation was due to an old injury that hadn't healed properly (before we were his pawrents), and severe arthritis..

Thanks in advance

Happy ampuversary, Flash!

Holly did that for a few days - but it was sooner after her amputation.  We iced her site and that seemed to help.  The vet thought it was what you said - the nerves relearning that the leg isn't there anymore.  You might want to ask your vet about it.  Lots of dogs here have used gabapetin (I'm not sure of the spelling) with great success for phantom pain , if that's what you think it might be.

Good luck!  We're keeping fingers and paws crossed for Flash that the yelping stops soon, and are so glad everything else seems to be good!

Hugs,

Holly, Zuzu and Susan

Holly joined the world of tripawds on 12/29/2009. She has a big little sister, Zuzu, who idolizes Holly and tries to make all of her toys into tripawds in Holly's honor. And she's enjoying life one hop at a time!

Yeaaaay Flash! Glad to hear you're getting around.

No worries on the yelping, lots of us get that. It's called Phantom Limb Pain, and it often goes away soon after surgery. Sometimes it can take a month or two but like Holly said, Gabapentin can help if its severe.

Keep it up buddy, you're doing GREAT!
