This week we are very grateful for a generous gift from Spirit Magnum's Mom Karen. It's been one year since Magnum earned her wings after a brave cancer battle, and Karen wrote this beautiful anniversary tribute in Magnum's blog.

“I wish you were here”

 

It’s been twelve months and I still ask “why did you have to go?”

Twelve months and I still wish there was more I could have done.

Twelve months and I still miss you in all that I do.  Miss you, miss you, miss you.

I wish you were here.

 

When you left me my faith was in pieces, my world left empty.

But three weeks later you returned,  in my dreams and in my waking moments.

You warmed my heart and restored the faith that I had lost.

But I still wished that you were here.

 

I remember the fun we had together, playing with the ball at the park, the beach, inside the house!

The lazy mornings and evenings filled with hugs and kisses. The long walks exploring new places.

You were my rock, my guardian, my reason for living when everything around me crumbled.

I wish you were still here.

 

When cancer reared its ugly head I begged it to not be true.  I prayed for a little more time.

But in a crazy way it made me stop and live “now”, letting the memories soak deep within my soul.

Our last eight months together were a gift that is imprinted on my heart, never to be lost.

But I still wish you were here.

 

Now, twelve months on, you don’t visit me anymore in my dreams,

You don’t sit with me anymore in the quiet of the day.

I miss the warmth and peace that would fill me with the touch of your spirit.

I wish you were here.

 

I know you are safe and happy in a place forbidden to me, for now.

I am slowly learning to go on, to love and be happy without you.

The lessons and love you taught me will always be with me.

But I still wish you were here.

A great big shout out and "Thank You" goes to Spirit Scout's pack, led by momma Catherine.

Scout joined us in January 2011 after losing his leg to "an undifferentiated sarcoma" in his front left leg. He earned his wings in November of that year, and it's so hard to believe that was two years ago. This week his pack gave a generous gift to Tripawds in honor of Scout's beautiful life and three-legged heroes everywhere.

"It gives me enormous happiness to think that Scout was able to enjoy an extra nine months on Earth-- and, boy did he enjoy himself.  He was healthy right up until the end and enjoyed his daily (3 mile) walks -- off leash, always in front-- he was our Scout, after all. Scout was my first dog, although I don't think of him as a dog-- he was a human in a dog's body.  He had a human soul, my Scout."

We are honored to be remembered on anniversaries like this. Thank you so much Catherine, Scout's little brother Tom  and the human kids too.

You always have the most loving, supportive things to say. Thank you Sally!

A very big hug and 3-paw salute goes out to Penny, mom to Angel Maggie the Weim. Today she honored Maggie's memory on her one year ampuversary with a generous gift to the Tripawds Community.

Thank you very, very much Penny. May your sweet Maggie hike, swim and romp in the breathtaking mountains of doggie heaven for all time.

Today we received the heartbreaking news that Gabby earned her angel wings. Our deepest condolences are going out to her family.

Gabby, Biff and their pawrents were one of the first Tripawds Supporters in the community. They've been with us since September 2009, and we are honored by what they wrote in their blog post about Gabby's life:

We thank Tripawds for many things, not least the confidence to go ahead with amputation, which was a big hurdle. Also through this site, we found a great book “Help Your Dog FIGHT Cancer”. We supplemented her food based upon that book and we think it extended her life. We also found here the Ruffwear harnesses that are invaluable for the tripawd on the go. This place is a real valuable resource for people who really need one and we can’t say enough good things about it. Using the knowledge here along with some commitment and foolhardiness, we were able to enjoy 5 strong years together with Cancer Survivor Gabby, and even more importantly, to see her off peacefully before she really suffered. There just aren’t enough thanks for those things, but we try.

Words can't express how honored we are to be a part of journeys like Gabby's.
