Today our sweet girl reached a milestone....her one year ampuversary. Words cannot describe how proud we are of her. She has been a trooper through the entire thing. It is like she never missed a beat. Of course we have to thank her doctors, as well as our awesome family and friends, and last, but certainly not least, this website. Oh, I have no idea how we would be where we are without all of you here. I remember finding out Cadence's diagnosis and stumbling through the internet trying to find anything that we could, and well, here you were. At first, we started out by looking just for nutritional advice, then, we met the Chicago pack and their tripawd warriors. We feel very blessed to have reached this milestone. Cadence has taught us about taking one day at a time, about being more "dog" and just picking up and moving forward no matter what life throws at you. Through her we have been able to educate people about her condition, and tripawds, that yes they can do everything and anything four-legged dogs can do.

We started the day with her taking her to breakfast with us, and after, a long riverwalk where she chased ducks and geese and met other dogs. Then she went and picked out a big bully stick at a local petstore.

We realize how each and everyday is special and a gift for us, especially in our situation. She has been through a lot with us and it feels like she will always be there.

Cadence, here's to many more ampuversaries and we celebrate your life. We love you! Keep fighting!

Congratulations to Cadence. That is a wonderful milestone.  Our tripawds are amazing aren't they? As you say, they just pick themselves up and keep moving forwards no matter what life throws at them, living one day at a time. They are great teachers.

Happy Ampuversary, sweet girl!  Beautiful, brave and a warrior.  You really are the whole package!

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11.  A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Congratulations! Treats all around to celebrate!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Cadence:

That is great to celebrate your first Ampuversary; keep us the good fight and go for your 2nd.  You are right that it is a tribute to our loved ones and their entire support group.

Chuck & Rusty

Rusty is a Labradoodle who was diagnosed with level 3 Fibrosarcoma on January 16th, 2010 and had his left hind leg amputated on January 25th, 2010 five days before his 18 month birthday. Please see Rusty's blog @rusty.tripawds.com.  He is putting up one heck of a fight against this terrible disease.

We will definitely keep on fighting the good fight! Thank you all for your words of encouragement and I hope we get to be a part of the yearly amp club in 2013. It has been great to be a part of the Tripawds family. Isn't it amazing how time flies though? I still remember it like it was yesterday being at the vets and getting the diagnosis, how the tears flowed, and here we are celebrating her one year in "hoppiness". She still has work to do though, supervising our deck build before her "pawty". big-grin
