Howdy Folks. Name's Timber and I'm a 9 year old malamute with osteosarcoma. I was scheduled for amputation in June 2008 but a bone scan revealed tumors in both my front and rear leg. Doc said "no can do"! My parental unit never thought they would be so bummed about me not having the surgery. I gotta say, I totally agree. All you tripawds out there are total champs, and you have to remember you're lucky to have it as an option. We're two months out from diagnosis, but don't stress...I'm fortunate in many ways. I've always been a hyper-spazoid, so the party people at CSU think my attitude has alot to do with my ability to tolerate the disease, the pain, and the drug side effects. I'm doing monthly bisphosphonate treatments, radiation as needed, tramadol, K9 Immunity and metronomic chemotherapy . So far, I'm a little more sleepy than usual, but its also summer, and I tend to not get my game on until winter sets in. I still hork down my gourmet hand crafted meals twice a day (thanks mom...you're such a rockin' babe), and get out for walks every night. We're looking into stabilizing my leg with the biggest tumor by getting a custom brace over at Ortho Pets (Denver, CO) but chicks dig scars man...not leg braces! By offering my musings on this subject, I don't mean to downplay this disease in anyway, its just that after two months of worrying, crying, and being angry, we've decided to get back to being the same old silly care-free family for as long as we possibly can. Peace, love, and treats to all!
- Timber (only my mom calls me Timberkins...geeeez!)
Aww Timber, you really rock! It takes a very special dog to deal with all you have to and still be your happy pawsitive self.
Thank you for your story, it reminds us how lucky we are to have had a choice.

Don't be silly! Every story is different. And yours is indeed unique. Sharing it will help others, I'm sure. You never know what to expect with this damn disease.
Thanks for registerring!
PS: Timber is beautiful.

Hey Timber...yeah, mom calls me Zeusy sometimes - kind of takes away from the king of the gods thing that I have going for me - so embarrassing!!!
You and your pawrents are so inspirational - thank you SO much for sharing your positive attitude with us. Mom and I happen to agree that attitude is everything - it won't stop the inevitable for all of us, but it makes our time here with our loved ones special, fulfilling and worth every second.
Our prayers are with you pal - keep us posted on how you're doing.
Your pal,
Zeus (a.k.a. "the king") - Just a little reminder to mom!
oh yeah - mom sends her love, thoughts and prayers - she's a mushy one!

Timber, you really do rock. It sounds like your family really cares about you and has an excellent plan in place to help to keep you healthy and happy. Love, laugh and play as much as you want for as long as you can. It's the best medicine of all!! I just became a tripawd on Friday and am still struggling a little. I had a hard time getting up tonight when I was outside so I just decided to stay put. My mom brought a blanket outside and layed next to me watching the stars...like I said Love is the best!! Good luck with everything Timber. Licks and sniffs from Cody
