That Razbeg is pure joy! I need to start all of my days like he does. Can I have what he's having? 😉

And his tail is the swishiest I've ever seen! Just beautiful.

It is here!! Razbeg’s 2 year ampuversary!! smiley4smiley4

I’m soo happy he’s still here with us and most importantly, he’s still in good condition and enjoying life. I also feel gratitude to this community, because I’ve received so much information from here, and when we were at the beginning of this journey, reading success stories of others gave me hope. So thank you, and best wishes to other tripawd families sp_hearticon2

Oh, thank you all for being so nice sp_hearticon2

By the way, I forgot to mention: the black collar thingy Razbeg wears in the photo I posted is an activity tracker. I don’t know whether other tripawds use them, but they might be useful extra tool in monitoring the overall welfare of our furry family members. Ours is very basic one and doesn’t have as many features as some other trackers, but it does show the daily activity per hour and it also has a monthly view, so it’s easy to monitor the activity in the long term. The monitor shows the activity (or lack of it) during the night and when the dog is alone, which is very useful. Of course, any changes in activity levels could be a sign of health problems. The tracker could spot growing restlessness during the night time before we hoomans notice anything, for instance, and thus I think it could be useful for tripawds.

We have this one:

 https://kaunila.fi/eng

But these two, for instance, have more features:

Ooooh that's so cool. I know that vets are big into those devices because it really gets us more familiar with our pet's physical activity on a daily basis, and shows where they can improve or cut back. I've been meaning to write about those for the Tripawds Gear blog , so thanks for sharing! Razbeg is  a lucky pup to be loved by such conscientious parents!

Hi all,

Only a month from Razbeg's 2 year ampuversary and a bit different mood...We finally had lung x-rays done after eight months. We haven’t got the final report yet, but unfortunately Razbeg’s lung mets have visibly grown, so it seems Leukeran isn’t effective enough -or it isn’t effective enough for those mets, but it has lowered his white blood cell counts, so now we need to monitor his blood levels closely.  Feeling a bit blue now, but fortunately Razbeg is feeling well and still doesn’t have any symptoms of those mets.

It seems we don’t have many options left. Our vet considers trying Palladia, but it’s subjected to a special permit here in Finland and apparently there has been problems in its availability, so now our vet is trying to find out if it’s even possible to get it, and what it would cost, because evidently it’s very, very expensive compared to those metronomics we have tried up till now.

The vet also mentioned doxorubicin but borzois are at risk to have heart problems, and our onco team also seems to think that intravenous chemos might not work best for him, apparently because they target fast dividing cells, while Razbeg’s mets grow slowly but steadily.

Lobectomy was also mentioned, since Razbeg seems to have only these two mets, but our vet gave her honest opinion that she didn’t think it would be best for Razbeg, and I tend to agree. It would be another major operation, Razbeg is 11 years old and although he’s in good condition and moves well now, there are signs of arthritis in his remaining front leg.  Also, even after lobectomy mets can appear on some other location. We don’t even know the actual location of his mets, because they always show only on those x-rays which are taken when he lays on his back. They don’t show on lateral x-rays.  So it would require at least a CT scan and the result would probably still be that it’s not worth putting him through such a rough operation.

I know I should just be grateful that he’s already got so much extra time and that he’s still feeling fine, and I truly am, but I still wish there would be something more to do, some other thing to try. I would appreciate it much if others who are/have been in the same situation (i.e. lung mets have grown) could share their experiences and tell what they decided to do.

Good to see your handsome mug  again Razbeg !And to hear how well he is doing and how he is still living life to fullest is ALWAYS great news!

I like your Vet's honesty and willingness  to be open to options, while weighing  risks, benefits, etc.  And the Vet definitely  takes Razbeg the individual I to account.

One thing  for certain,  you have left no stone unturned and have already done far more than many would do, or could do.  Your Razbeg continues  to show everyone that stat6 don6 mean squat and that is soooo inspirational and gives so much needed hope to others!

Maybe you could contact a Holidtic Vet for some alternatives.  Check into mushroom therapy,  Turkey tail, K9 Immunity , etc.  Treatments  like these cause no harm.  As you know quality  is so important!

Now go hug Razbeg and know that all is well in his world!!!

Hugs
