Just over 2 weeks now since my amputation.

What a difference - every day I feel better.  Mum and dad are amazed.  Yesterday I was jumping around on the grass playing with my chewy.

Hi Maxwell,

Glad to hear you are doing so well - that is great news! I am one week post amputation and pretty lazy and mopey right now. I also am not eating much. We know from reading good stories like this that by next week I should be feeling much better.

Thanks for the update!

Hi Max C...you're supposed to be lazy, resting and letting your body heal - so you're on the right track. Make sure you eat buddy so you can keep your strength up - maybe mom can call the vet and see what else to feed you so you make sure you get the nutrients you need to help you recover. Mom put some lowfat cottage cheese and green beans in my food - yummy 🙂

Keep us posted on how you're feeling...ok?

Love,

Zeus

You'll soon be feeling better Max C - I'm certain of it - just hang in there and get lots of rest. As you know, I hardly moved the first week - just made it in and out to go to the toilet. It was about 2 weeks post amputation that I started to really pick up (and I'm such a feisty, strong dog - I think my recovery was pretty quick).  I'll be checking back regularly to find out how you're doing Max C.

After I had my staples out (13days post amp I think) I improved a lot quicker.  Today I have been full of beans - mum is concerned that I may overdo it - she is worried I'm going to hurt myself.  I have so much energy - I just wanted to jump about this evening and play - we have a nice long hallway - with 2 steps up to the end room - I love to chase up and down - and leap off the top step !!! I did this earlier on - my mum was quite distraught - I just laughed and wagged my tail lots.  She then took me outside for a little play - I am now relaxing again.

Life is good again - I'm back to my old self - perhaps a bit more cheeky than before (mum thinks she spoilt me too much - but I don't think so!)

I know all dogs have their own little ways but if you're not feeling too tempted by your normal dog food - mum mixed in some minced steak with my tea (she did cook it for me in water so there was plenty of juice) I loved it.

Yes Lalla - the Glasgow hospital is superb.  I don't really know it's reputation - I can only go on how we were treated - they were brilliant - the surgeon there was so good, very matter of fact and so positive - exactly the right attitude and very caring...  I trusted him completely.

Get plenty of rest Max C and stay positive.

Your friends in Scotland, all wish you well.

what a BEAUTIFUL picture...my goodness...i'm going to give you a big head Maxwell, but you are simply handsome as can be...we have a nice looking crew here on tripawds eh?

Mom still needs to get my picture up...I'm not bad either - she's just a little pressed because she and my step-dad (but I call him dad now) are traveling out of the country on Friday and wow, she has this crazy list, hopefully she'll get it on before she goes so you can all see how handsome I am too 😉

Glad that everyone is doing well -

we love you all!~

Wow Maxwell, you are a very cool Tripawd! We are so glad to hear you're feeling better and cheekier!

Your Mum's idea about making your food more tempting is a good one. I never used to get wet food until after my surgery, that's when Mom started giving me Evo canned meatstuff. I LOVE it!

I used to have a nice long hallway too, it was so fun to go fetch my Barneys when Mom and Dad would toss them. Now that we live on the road, I have nice long fields to go running in, but it sure ain't the same as sliding down the hallway and running in and out of bedrooms and hiding under the bed!

This is to all my great buddies. It is so nice to hear that everyone is doing well and getting better with each day, me included.  I love to look at all the pictures and definitely will have to tell my pawrents that we may have to update mine as it is not looking that good any more with all these goodlooking fellas and gals.  Got to do something about that.  As for eating, I didn't want to eat much either when I first got home and it took a few days for me to get some kind of appetite.  My moms recipe...she sat on the floor and pretty much fed me the food.  She added good things that she knew I would love like some chicken and some cottage cheese or sugar free, low fat yogurt.  she also made some type of goulash that has tomatoes, garlic, celery, and ginger and uses that to give my food some flavor.  Watch out for those tomatoes though with all that salmonella going on....thank goodness my Mom is into gardening so we have some in our garden.  Some times she also adds zucchini...and as long it is all chopped up in the food processor I am game and lick my bowl squeaky clean.  You will see you will be up and get your appettite back in no time.

Zeus you are falling behind....got to tell those pawrents that we need your picture.

I have to agree with everyone that you are a handsome lad Maxwell! It is great that you are chasing the ball - running amuk and back to your old self. I will probabaly run around nuts like you when I feel better as the "C" in "Max C" could easily stand for "CRAZY"! I am over 10 years old, but still act like a pup a lot of the time.

We have tried chicken, cottage cheese, salmon, ground beef, etc. but I am very picky right now. Mom had to hand feed me dinner tonight and that worked. Maybe we will try catfood as someone suggested. Still tired, but in good spirits. Went for a short walk around the block yesterday and it just wore me out! Takin it easy today...

Oh man, that is a long ways! I couldn't walk around the block for a looooong time, and our blocks were very small. So yeah dude, take it easy, k?

I tell ya, mom is SO lame...she has my pictures on disks and one of them isn't working (the one with all the post- amputation pictures on them) but one of them is (pre-amputation)...but she still couldn't figure out how to load. She's a TINY bit frustrated and tired, so she sent one picture of me (of course it's a GREAT shot of me with the wind blowing through my fur) off to Jerry to see if he could do it for her when he has a chance.

Wow mom...get with the times!

Love ya all

Wow Zeus - you are a cutie and look so young for a 10 year old like me! At first glance I thought I was looking at a puppy! Have a great time on vacation and enjoy every minute....

Love Max C.

PS Tell mom she is not lame. The picture posting thing is not as simple as it looks. My dad is a software engineer and he had some trouble too! Thanks Jerry.

Well - thanks for the nice comments - I think we're all a very handsome bunch!!!  Zeus - you still look like a pup!

My recovery has been great this last week - I feel top of the world right now and have started to jump around playing with my ball.  Sounds like Max C is doing great too - already going for walks... I'm just having quick bursts outside at the minute - still tire quite easily - but plenty of tail wagging and gradually building up those muscles.

Will have to try to do a little video - you won't believe how well I'm doing - everyone here is amazed at my progress and how well I look!  I'm so glad we took the decision we did - I have a great quality of life and everyone is smiling again.

Glad to hear you are doing so well Maxwell. We also know we made the right decision. A video of you jumping around playing ball would be so cool!
