Yesterday we picked up Skippie, our new tripawd. He is about 2 years old, and is originally a Romanian streetdog (so they don't know anything about his background). Since the amputation looks really neat (healed very well), they think he must have had an owner (not born on the streets). He also has some small lumps under his skin that are probably gun shot (pellets) that are encapsulated. He was already for 6 months in the Netherlands in a foster family, so yesterday Sira our other dog (female) and Skippie met, and they could get along very well, so we took him home :).

Probably due excitement and not being used to car rides he threw up a couple of times, so we will have to practise that in the future.

At home he adapted quite easily. He is a very social, friendly dog and they already slept together as youc an see. He is used to sleeping on the couch, but we read that it not very advisable since he has to jump on and off. So we are thinking what to do.....he really wants to be close to people/dogs (and our other dogs also sleeps on the couch).

He's adorable! I a perfect world it would be best if he didn't jump up and down off of couches/beds but sometimes there isn't any stopping them. My guy is young as well (~2ish) and there isn't any stopping him! We go on daily walks and hike frequently as well. We are slowly working up his endurance but he is doing fantastic.

Yeah these youngsters can be very quick :). He does things I was not really expecting from a tripawd ;).

I was think of making a "stair" /step so the hieght difference between the floo and couch is less...Since he loves being pet so much, it is too difficult for us to juslet him lay on the dog matress.

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

WELCOME HOME SKIPPIE!! SKIPPIE IS AOOOOO HANDSOME!!! I love his bone structure on his mug and his beautiful coloring!
And those eyes...oh my goodness he is just a spectacular looking dog!!

So gad he and Sira are getting along!

The tripawd who has just joined me for his forever home and young and crazy tol! He prefers jumping off the deck rather than use the stairs! He jumls over the rail on Happy Hannah's ramp rather than waste his time walking all the way down! I think we try and do what we can to help avoid any injuries and, at the same time, realoze that they want to live life to the fullest just like four leggers and clearly are not the least bit concerned that they only have three legs.

Yeah, as far as the sofa, just try a d put a firm foan memory dog bed next to it so he can use it as a launching lad and so he will jumpr down on kt when he's through lounging on the sofa!

TRUE STORY....Maricela BRUNO BRUISER's mom, cut the legs off their sofa so he could still get up and down with no issue!

Cannot wait to follow the journey of Skippie and Aira with lots and lots of pictures!!!!

Sending lots of love to the pack!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Thanks everybody for the nice reply's :). He is indeed very gorgeous and lives life to the max! Benny55, I thought about it as well. I have cut an old matrass in pieces and created different levels. The memory foam bed of Sira is now in front of it. Sira rarely uses it anymore, now that she can lay on the sofa ;).

I already asked my farther to make a stability board, since he is retired and has the proper tools ;).

In a few weeks, I'll write an update!

Just to let you all know Skippie is doing great!

He got his harness, and although it is not for lifting him, it works great on a leash and for light support (lift the front). He only managed to get out of it once. And sometime when he decides to lay down and roll over, it might shift a bit.

He likes to chase rabbit's (there is this fence where rabbits can go though and dogs not.....so if he can he rans up and down along the fence). So we have to take care he is not running too much.

Now that he is used a bit to his new home, we also have started with some training.

Also he get along with our dog really well....the either sleep together or play. I'll see if i can post a video of it...

The easiest way is to upload videos to YuTube first. Then you can just paste the share URL, and it will auto-embed in your post.

I missed your introduction so I am just getting caught up and kind of responding to all your posts here.

First off, Skippie looks like he has hit the jackpot by becoming a part of your family! And he is so beautiful! That is so great that he and Sira get along so well. She is a real beauty as well.

It is definitely hard to keep a young tripawd down. Our first, Codie Rae, used to love to fence run with the little dogs at the dog park (almost as good as chasing rabbitswinker). There was sandy soil there too and I think it actually really helped her become fit and strong having to work a little harder in the sand. She had six-pack abs! That said, she is a rear leg amp and we did limit her fun to 10 or 15 minutes at a time, we would try to stop her as soon as she started to tire out. So the sand may be a benefit for you as long as Skippie doesn't over do itsmiley.

Thank you thank you for adding a tripawd to your family! You may find, like we did, that one just isn't enough (we have 3)!

Thanks Codie Rae! smiley Yes, we keep a close eye on him, to check when he is tired. Sometime he will sit or lie down, which is a clear sign. Although sometimes he just sits and when Sira, our other dog is close, he will jump on her and start playing again. So we also try to limit it to about 10-15 minutes. Luckily when Sira starts running in a straight line he stops his chase quite soon and waits till she comes back.

Ok, so you have 3?! big-grin I can imagine adding more heheh
