It has been a little over six months now since Lucy left us in December.  I check into the Tripawds forums less often than I used to, especially after we were able to send off her harnesses to new tripawds.   Somehow, that has become part of healing.

We still miss her terribly–every day–but are thinking of getting another dog, or even two.  Yesterday I inquired about a lab mix (which Lucy was) on a rescue site, and right afterward there was a very, very strong DOG scent in the room!  I had asked Lucy to send us a new dog, and to let us know, so maybe that was our sign from her.  Like all loved dogs, she was the best dog ever, but I know she will send us another best one (not a girl I suspect: she was pretty jealous of her “dad” and other girls!).

I just wanted to express my gratitude to all who were so helpful, informative, supportive, and understanding during Lucy’s various stages of being a tripawd from February to December 2017.  At times it seems like a blur now, but while going through it, there was so much anxiety about what she and we would face at each new phase. Things would never have gone so well without all of you.  And to anyone reading this who is still on the tripawd journey, my heart goes with you as well.

Hi Catherine!

It is so nice to hear from you!! Just like you gifting Lucy’s harnesses, i feel privileged to be a part of helping anybody through such a process. As you know Huckleberry did not have cancer but the amputation surgery was still an incredibly stressful scary process. I would not have done nearly as well if it weren’t for the support and friendship that i received from the people here. Helping another is simply the only way that i know of to pay it back.

Maybe Lucy will send you a boy and a girl 😉😉 .You know now that you have let the dog out of the bag you’ll have to come back and share the stories and pictures!!! There are so many furbabies out there desperate for a good home, any furbabies that you adopt will no doubt be very lucky to have found just a wonderful family ❤️❤️❤️

Huge hugs and lots of love,

Jackie, Huckleberry, and the rest of the crew ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hugs,

Jackie, David, Mitchell, Andy Oscar, and the coolest feral tripawd kitty Huckleberry

Just giving  you a heads up, if you’re  like me, you’ll blubber like a baby when you read this…..but it really is written from the heart of a dog❤

Our beloved huge hearted Michelle  shared this recently and it was just bumped yesterday.

I thnk the timing had Lucy’s pawprint all over it!!   This, plus the scent of dog…..oh yeah, Lucy os DEFINITELY  sending  somebody…or two…your way!😁

Here goes:

My dear human,

I see that you are crying, for it is my moment to leave. Don’t cry, please. I want to explain some things to you.
You’re sad because I left, but I’m glad I met you.
How many dogs like me die daily without meeting someone special like you?

I know it saddens you my departure, but I had to go now.
I want to ask you not to blame yourself for anything. I heard you sobbing that you should have done something else for me. Don’t say that, you’ve done a lot for me! Without you I would have known nothing of the beauty I carry with me today.
You must know that we animals live the present intensely and we are very wise: we enjoy every little thing every day, and forget the bad past quickly. Our lives begin when we know love, the same love you gave me, my angel without wings and two legs.
Know that even if you find an animal that is seriously injured, and that you only have a little bit of time in this world, you provide a huge service by accompanying you in your final transition.

None of us likes to be alone, except when we realize it’s time to leave.

Maybe for you it’s not so important that one of you is next to us caressing us and holding our paw, helps us go in peace.
No more crying, please. I’ll be happy. I have in memory the name you gave me, the warmth of your house that in this time became mine. I take the sound of your voice talking to me, even though I don’t always understand what you were saying to me.
I carry in my heart every caress you gave me.

Everything you did was very valuable to me and I thank you endlessly, I don’t know how to tell you, because I don’t speak your language, but surely in my eyes you could see my gratitude.

I’m just gonna ask for two favors. Wash your face and start smiling.

Remember how good we live together these moments, remember the antics I made to cheer you up.
Relive like me all the good we share in this time.
And do not say you will not adopt another animal, because you have suffered a lot from my departure. Without you I would not live the beauties I lived.

Please don’t do this! There are many like me waiting for someone like you.

Give them what you gave me, please, they need it just like I needed you.

Don’t keep the love you have to give, for fear of suffering.
Follow my advice, cherish the good you share with each of us, recognizing that you are an angel to us animals, and that without people like you our life would be harder than sometimes it is.
Follow your noble task, now it’s up to me to be your angel.
I will accompany you in your path and help you help others like me.

I will talk to other animals who are here with me, I will tell you everything you have done for me and I will point and say proudly: “that’s my family”.

Tonight, when you look at the sky and see a blinking star I want you to know that it’s me flashing an eye; warning you that I arrived well and telling you “thank you for the love you gave me”.
I say goodbye now not saying ” goodbye “, but ” see you later “.
There is a special sky for people like you, the sky where we go and life reward us by making us meet there.
I’ll be waiting for you!”

OK where are my tissues? Cause there are some bittersweet tears in this dog house today! Sally and Michelle, thank you so much for sharing such a beautiful passage. I especially love:

Our lives begin when we know love, the same love you gave me, my angel without wings and two legs.
Know that even if you find an animal that is seriously injured, and that you only have a little bit of time in this world, you provide a huge service by accompanying you in your final transition.

Lucy was so fortunate to have you for a parent, what a gift! And I totally believe that she sent a signal telling you it’s OK to follow your heart and help another pup who needs a home. Go with your gut instinct and Lucy’s nudges, you can’t go wrong.

Thank you for the kind words about this community. It’s all the stories like Lucy’s that make it such a comforting place to be throughout the entire journey. Her life will always be here to inspire others and give hope when things seem bleak. We so appreciate your being part of Tripawds!

It's better to hop on three legs than to limp on four.™

Catherine and Angel Lucy 🌻🕊

I am so happy to hear Lucy is sending you a new pack 💕💕

Of course she would want other fluffies to live as happy a life as she did with you and your husband 😍

You bet she has her paws all over this, the dog smell wasn’t there for no reason 😉

Cannot wait to see who (and how many pups) she sent you 🐶🐶🐶🐶

Sending you much love and kisses 😘🐮💫✨🌟🌹

Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo.
