Sasha was able to stand unaided today.  She didn't stay up long, but its progress.  Her bandage was riding up, so we did the best we could to add to it.  Its been very stressful so far.  She isnt able to move very far, so we haven't made it outside yet.  Masybe later.  She probably could do with eating some snow, her favorite.  She ate some more chicken and rice, but no water.  The vet said she was loaded upwith lots of fluids so she just might not need it yet.  Keep praying!  Thanks everyone.

So glad to hear things are going well for Sasha....Its hard emotionally and physically for both you and her right now but every day you will see progress and it will easier than the day before - the first 4 days are the toughest then you will start to see her doing more and more and you can breath a bit and know there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I boiled up a turkey carcass for Riley and put some of the broth into her water dish (tip from the forum) and got her to drink it as the first 3 days she flat out refused to drink water....Between that and the meds, it was 6 days before Riley had a B/M which had to have been pretty painful. (thats why I mentioned the pumpkin and yogurt previously).  I felt so bad for her cuz she sort of hid herself in a corner behind the pool house and stayed there for about 10 minutes and when she finally came out - she had a spring in her step and I swear she was singing "I feel good"!!!!

Keep up the good work smile

Sending hugs......and pawsitive thoughts.

Pawesome news!!!!

Yes, stressful is putting it mildly. We don't say the first two weeks can be hell for nothin'. But keep making note of those little victories because they all add up!

Great news about Sasha, don't worry, a few weeks down the road and you'll say I can't believe she is doing so good, breathe deep and relax a little, it's the humans that get all stressed out, Paws up, Spirit Gus and Dan

My buddy Gus had a left front amputation on April 7, 2010 and lived a great life until July 26,2010

Awe, you go big girl.  You'll be hopping about in no time. She's just taking her time and making sure all is well before she takes off. the recovery is really rougher for the humans than the dogs. We have a lot more mental adjusting to do.

Sasha is doing great!  She was able to go outside twice today.  The early afternoon one put her to sleep for about nine hours!  The second trip about 11:00 pm resulted in a first pee outside after surgery.  She was able to squat and hold herself up!   We are so blessed with miracles, that I can't count them all!!!  Thank you so much for all the prayers!!!  Love to all and hope everything is well with you!

Go Sasha !!.

Really pleased to hear she is progressing so well.

We are now 8 weeks past amputation with Io the Wolfhound and we now feel quite privilieged to have seen how astonishing Dog adapt - Lots of people told us he would but seeing it is something else big-grin.   We now wished we had made a list of all of the things that we assumed that Io would no longer be able to do or need assistance with once he was a Tripawd as I think am awful lot of those would already be crossed off !!.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery

go Sasha!

I was given good advice when Sammy was going through his 2 week recovery period.  Start a little note book, feeding times, drinking times, potty times, as well as pill times.  It helped when there were set backs to be able to read that it was okay, he did eat something a few hours ago, he did go potty at 1pm.

It is amazing that when you are under that much stress how you can forget the things you are looking so hard for.  I still keep his notebook up to date today, almost 6 months later.

Now, it is more of a reminder of when I gave him what pills, so I know I didn't forget.

Hugs and prayers for a continued great recovery!

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us.  Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.
