Oh that is a cute story about the neighbor! I'm so glad he's getting around and doing well. We always love celebrating these milestones. Getting back to your old routines and hangouts is a major victory! 3-paws up to Rocky and you! HOPPY AMPUVERSARY!

A little late, but June 29, 2009 was the day Rocky and I met. Since he's a rescue, I declared that day to be his birthday. And since the vet estimated he was 3 back then, that makes last Thursday Rocky's 11th birthday.

I had never heard of puppuccinos before I came here. So, of course, I had to get one for his birthday.

Huh? I know nothing about that empty cupImage Enlarger

And then the next day, he got a bath and haircut.

One more round of round chemo to go on Wednesday. We're also having X-rays done and getting those lumps on his back checked out. Praying everything comes back clean. I'm trying to keep it a secret, but I think we're going to celebrate him completing his chemo with another round of puppucinos.

Rocky had his right front leg amputated on Valentine's Day 2017 after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma.

He joined the September Saints on September 3, 2017.

He is the toughest, bravest, sweetest and best friend I'll ever know.

Happy birthday Rocky!  Although I think he looks much happier about the puppucino than the bath.

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Wherever they are, they are together.

I wish I had a better update, but it appears as though Rocky's cancer has spread.

We went for what was supposed to be his final round of chemo (Carbo) today. The oncologist checked out the two lumps on the right side of his back (and she found a third one under his left arm) and aspirated them. We're waiting on a pathology to confirm, but she's 90 percent sure it's his cancer.

The strange thing is, his lungs and lymph nodes are still met free, according to X-rays.

Assuming it's spread, now I have to decide between giving Doxorubicin or Palladia a try. I don't feel real good about the Doxo. I know it's harder on the heart, and Rocky had heart worm injections eight years ago.

Anybody have any experience where the OSA skips the lungs but travels down the body? Apparently Rocky is a rare case.

Pretty tough day, but we're not giving up.

Happy Belated Birthday Rocky! The puppuccino looks delicious and you look very handsome after your bath and haircut. David I am sorry to hear that you think Rocky's cancer may have spread. I wonder if it is a different cancer or maybe (hopefully) something else. I don't know much about how they spread. My dog Lucy had hemangiosarcoma and did the doxorubicin. She didn't have Rocky's heartworm history but they would still only give her so many rounds before they were concerned about her heart. She did very well on it and she went on to beat her cancer for 18 mos. which is really long for hemangio. She would get a nauseous and lethargic for about 1 1/2 days after a treatment but bounced back really well.

I'm so happy that you and Rocky got to celebrate another birthday together - that's a REALLY BIG DEAL! I hope that you can get some answers about what you are dealing with and come up with a plan. We are rooting for you both.

While we wait on the pathology report, here's some pictures. First two are obviously his ice cream treat the other night. Last one is after his walk last night.

He's got that "that's it, there's not anymore" look on his face. (There are actually three more cups in the freezer).

Been a rough few days ... guess I'll try to consolidate everything here. We're still fighting, but it feels like this cancer has the upper hand at the moment.

The pathology on those lumps came back positive for OSA last Friday. Over the weekend, while we worked on a new plan of attack, Rocky started acting liking he wasn't feeling well. The best way I can put it is, despite him being 11, I've never thought of him as being an old dog. But he's started acting old. He doesn't want to get up in the morning (that's actually started before the weekend), doesn't want to play ball or go for walks, doesn't fly up the stairs with the same exuberance as before. His eyes, at times, just looked tired.  And he skipped breakfast a few times.

He rallied a bit Saturday night and Sunday, but seemed pretty miserable last night and this morning. So, even though it's an hour and a half drive, back to the oncologist we went today. Of course, by the time we got there, he had perked up a good bit.

First the good news: His blood work looked great. No infections or any issues with kidneys or liver. The bad news: One of those lumps has already grown since last week.

Since the Carboplatin failed, we decided Palladia is up next. I'll start him on it tonight. We're hoping it will at least hold the fast-growing tumor steady, if not shrink it. We're also putting him back on Tramadol. I had some left over from the amp and gave him some over the weekend and again this morning. Since he perked up after taking it, we're hoping that maybe it will help him feel better.

We're giving the Palladia two weeks and then we'll get that tumor measured again. If it hasn't grown, then we'll keep him on the Palladia . If it's still growing, then it's on to Plan C.

He had been doing so well, so it's really frustrating to feel like cancer has regained the upper hand. But it fights so dirty.

This is him from this morning. I needed an outside photo.

David! Tha k you soooo much for taking the time to update!! That Rocky is being quite helpful to let you share all the information regarding his treatment. Yih do, I deed, have a plan of attack and Rocky has no intention of gping a ywhere anytime soon!!

Actually, as I first started reading my IMMEDIATE thought was put him on a dosemof pain meds! I know it was disheartening to seem him not "acting like a puppy", but it really does seem like part of the issue was pain. And that is "treatable"! YAY!!

The other thing that stands out is, the jkurney DOES "age" dogs faster than normal. And HANDSOME ROCKY is already...er...."mature"'so it is NOT unexpected at all that he has less perky days than some. Obviously, I'm not discounting the health challenges he has, but some of this amy not be entirely related to those challenges. Layi g arou d, conserving energy, resting aching joints....yeah....sou ds like the onset, to some degreee anyway, of "senioritis :-)!

I remember my Vet said one time when I was "questioning" what was going in with my senior dog. All tests were good, he said it was just "old age". I remarked that it xeemed to come out of the vlue! 'He said when it starts catching up, it can catch up fast! I can somewhat attest to that on my own self!!! 🙂 🙂

Did the Vet recommend a daily dose of Tram? Sounds like it's helpful.

U loooove that Rocky perked up at the Vet!! Clearly he likes a bit of cha ge of scenerw!! Does he like carrides? Maybe you could take him through a drive thru for a cheeseburger tomorrow.

A D YAAAAAAAAAY for good bloodwork!! Tht IS encouraging!! 🙂

One thing I saw on Aspen's post you might ask your Vet about. It's controversial but worth looking into. CBD/THCa tincture....yes, a "form"'of pot, but WITHOUT the "high".

And PLEASE keep these lictures coming! The one you just posted is just beautiful!!! To look at him, you wouldn't know he has any "challenbes". And ya' know what? In Rocky's world he as no challenges and he is doing just fine! 🙂

Hugs! AND MORE ICE CREAM FOR ROCKY!!! Or at least Frosty Paws!! 🙂
