Hi Everybody,
I've been reading so much on here since last week when we found out Lily needed her front left leg amputated. It's been great to learn so much and realize it will probably be OK. Well, she had it done this morning and they say she is doing well and hopping around. Hopefully she'll come home tomorrow.
We have 12 pets, and now 4 of them have some type of disability. We have a wobbly cat (cerebellar hypoplasia, so cute!), an autistic (if you will) coonhound, a severely crippled duck, and now our lovely new Tripawd, Lily.
This has been such an emotional week with the sudden diagnosis (soft-tissue sarcoma) and I'm so grateful to you all for all your sharing and comforting.
Thank you!
Jody
Not too many new tripawds have bowel movement that soon after surgery. I consider that as a big achievement!

Wish Lily have a speedy recovery! Hugs.

Still no problems! I can hardly believe it. She was so happy to be home and she settled right in, just as usual. She slept in bed with us, under the covers, took up the whole bed, as usual. My 15 year old son is now immensely popular with his Tripawd photo album on Facebook. Apparently Tripawds are babe-magnets..."Ooooh, your poor dog! What happened?", etc. Couldn't there have been an easier way, with less tears and heartbreak?!
So, everything is good so far and hopefully, I won't have anything to report!
Thanks everyone,
Jody
Hi Jody and Lily
Best wishes! I'll be following Lily's story because she and my Cemil are in synch--his left front leg left him Monday and he also came home last night and slept on (but not in) the bed. Aren't these guys amazing, the way they adjust so quickly!
Cemil and mom Mary, Mujde and Radzi….appreciating and enjoying Today
Such great news to hear Lily and Cemil are back home and already going back to normal activities as usual! I dropped off Shadow for surgery this morning, he's probably going to be operated on any minute now. With the doctor's reassurances and reading your updates, it eases my mind ALOT!
Thank you for your updates, and much love and speedy recoveries to all!

So glad to hear that Lily is doing so well!!! I wonder how it is that some dogs do so well and others have a tough time - panting, crying, licking the stitches, etc. Wonder if it has anything to do with the meds? what is Lily on? I am so determined to do as much research as possible, preparation, etc. to make next week easier - our Marley goes in on Monday, home Wed.......
Lily is taking Tramadol and Rimadyl. I really thought she'd have patches and all kinds of things. She's not even on antibiotics. We had her re-wrapped today because her bandage was slipping down her torso and we could see her oozy staples. They say it looks good though. I still can't believe her smooth recovery. She pulls me down the stairs (I use the sling) like a sled-dog, and the most beautiful thing today was how she had her head out the window on the way to the vet's office. She just used that one leg like there was nothing different going on. Then, my son and I completely cracked up because when she did her after-poop-scrape-the-ground-thing it was so funny looking and then, ooops, she fell forward and stubbed her snout. Watching her do that jig was the best. But the best thing was getting her home so soon. They could tell she was unhappy so we came early and she ran into my husbands arms, making an indescribable sound of sorrow and joy at the same time. We love her so much.
Wonderful news indeed. All dogs are different, as are all treatment options. The more we can share here, the more helpful this site is for others. Thanks for the update!

Hi everyone,
Today is Lily's week anniversary and still everything is really good. Aren't they so smart? She seems to have figured out that she needed to settle down and she rests in the kennel we made for her without our telling her to. We have 4 dogs and when the doorbell rings or the garage door opens you can imagine the dog explosion that shoots down the stairs. I've been so afraid of her joining the stampede and so far she has stayed pretty much out of it. So while she says she ready to get back into the routine she seems to know that she just can't yet. The funniest thing we do for her now is we take her for a walk... all the way to the neighbor's house and back. We live in a regular neighborhood so it is not very far! But she seems to feel so respected and special to go without the others and just us. I took her out for show-and-tell yesterday, to the sidewalk, so the elementary school kids could see her and she wiggled and wagged and the kids were so nice to her.
I see people ask about separation from other dogs and we didn't do that at all. They really weren't interested in any of it and have left her alone. Aren't they so smart? (Well, our mentally challenged dog has bumped into her a few times but then Lily's yelp scares him to death. He doesn't have good boundary awareness.) So we've pretty much let her do her own thing, except chase those squirrels!!!
I'm following everyone's story so closely and check in all the time.
Thanks!
Jody
