My name is Diana Baskett and I have worked in animal rescue for ten years. Two days ago I rescued a Japanese Chin from a hoarder/breeder that had six three week old puppies. One of the puppies has only a nubbin for a front leg. This is all very new to me and I will be raising this puppy myself, so I need all of the help and advice I can get. This dog will be anywhere from 4 to 7 pounds full grown.
I have researched some why this happens, many reasons. I have read one website on how to help her when she gets older, but I am interested in what I can do for her now to make sure she thrives.
The other five puppies and the mother will be adopted out through the rescue once they are weaned, but I feel a calling to care for this special little one myself. I am very much looking forward to a long and hapy life with my new Tripawed puppy!!!!!!!
P.S. Any cute name suggestions???? I thought of Trey, but it's not that girly
Thank you to everyone in advance for your help and suggestions!

Which website was that? Please share the link.
As a small dog, Trey should manage quite well and will likely not need much if any special care considerations. Frequent strengthening exercises, stretches and massage are certain to keep her happy, and a healthy diet is a must for keeping her fit and trim.
You'll find many more helpful care tips in Jerry's Required Reading List.
Any cute name suggestions????
How 'bout Cín Cín (pronounced Chin-Chin)? It's a traditional Italian toast, as in Cheers!
Thanks for joining and bless you for taking in Trey. Your future posts will not require moderation.

Bless you for taking in Trey (I like that name!)
I, too had a 3 legged dog that came from a hoarder. Her's was a deformed leg, not a nub. I had her for 12 years until January.
She was 36lbs. Trey sounds like a "pocket tripawd"! You can put her in your pocket!
When I got Comet, gosh I no idea about 3 legged dogs and never searched for any info. I just treated her like normal and followed her lead on how far she could walk and whether or not she could hop up on the furniture. She was fine!
The only thing I would have done different early on was put down throw rugs and runners on the tile areas of our house. I did do that later. She slid on them and she's had a few cracked teeth over the years when I would get her dental cleaning. I always assumed that was from falling on her face.
BEST WISHES TO YOU GUYS! When you can, add a picture!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.

The cutest "Japanese" dog name we ever heard was Diogi (Deeyogee)... get it? D. O. G.

Diogi is funny and cute, but I do like Kiba. Or, how about just cutting to the chase and calling her Fang? Maybe if you give her a big, assertive name she'll never be taken advantage of. On the other hand, Chins are pretty girly-looking dogs so maybe she needs a delicate, feminine name. But you shouldn't listen to anything I say. We typically name our dogs very nontraditional names. Dakota was named after where we found him, and that's not odd. All the others have been just weird dog names. (Fang. I really like it!)

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.
