Molly's original story was posted under this title: “Molly: new tripawdChesapeake Bay Retriever w/ synovial sarcoma.” This is an update.

It is nearly Molly's 1-year ampuversary, and we're celebrating with a 10-day canoe trip to the Boundary Waters. In preparation, we have done some swimming and canoeing on a local lake. We documented a little bit on video that we're sharing here:

(Hopefully we did this link correctly.)

Molly was diagnosed with Synovial Cell Sarcoma (grade 3 with hystiocytic markers) and had her front leg amputated on August 15th 2008.  We had a wonderful two years with her until she passed at age 13.5 on August 29th 2010.  As far as we could tell, her cancer never returned.

Oh Molly, you look wonderful! What an amazing girl you are, beating the odds and showing the world that Tripawds can swim like the fishies. Thank you for letting us know how you're doing.

You look great in your Ruffwear Float Coat! Have a great trip, and be sure to come back here and post some more videos. Enjoy!

What a cutie!!!  Thanks for the video.  It made me want to buy a float coat even though Jack hates the water 🙂  Have fun on your trip!

Molly had a great afternoon at the lake and did some swimming and retrieving, in addition to being good and laying down while in the canoe.

Enjoy!

Awwwwwww, what a good swimmer! And she's so calm in the canoe. How did you ever get her to stay so mellow on the water?

Thanks, you made our day.

She will only calm down in the canoe if we let her swim awhile before she has to get in.  We also found that she prefers to sit in the front of the boat where she can scope out the terrain ahead.  After two practice runs, she seems to be ready for the actual trip.  I think it will be a great way for us to all get into the wilderness.  The portages on our route are short, so she won't have to hop along very far and the rest of the time she can float along in the canoe.  She will also have lots of swimming time, which is her absolute favorite thing to do.  I can't believe how much of a gift this trip is.  Last August we weren't sure how Molly would make it through her amputation and cancer treatments, and here we are 1 year later-- about to embark on a 10-day canoe adventure.   We will make sure to post some videos of the trip.

Molly,

Happy ampuversary - we will be celebrating vicariously with you at this inspiring accomplishment. We all loved the photos & video. Dad has often said that we need to find something that our TriPawd companion loves and then exploit that love to provide purpose in their lives. Well your pawrents have definitely accomplished that very well. The love and quality of life are clearly evident in your beautiful smile. All I get are truck/car trips and sitting in the parking lot at the Lower Hamilton General Store just below the Old Faithful Inn while dad radios the eruptions to the visitor's center. Well he did let me sit on his lap, on the swing, under the veranda at the Lower Hamilton General Store too.

Anyway, keep up the great work and keep us all inspired.

What an adorable video!!!  It must be nice to have a dog that returns the ball and doesn't run off and laugh in your face 🙂  She looks great.
