So today I told brownie he was going swimming. He jumped right into the car. Then when we got to the clinic he jumped out and looked at me. "This is not the lake and where is Grizzley". I know that is what he was thinking. As soon as we walked in he started his heavy painting and looking for ways to escape. You see besides being neutered and yearly visits to the vet that is all brownie has ever know. Now xrays, blood work, surgery, and being poked at he is just not having it. But when the chiropractor starting working her magic, he loved that. He would stretch out those backs legs as far as he could and just moan. I was a little jealous.
Then came the treadmill. They put on the webmaster float coat . They said it was the only life jacket they used. The water started filling up and Brownie started to get excited. But then wouldn't you know, the entire street loss power, so we could not start the treadmill but we our going to try again next week.
I did get a lot of good advise and a lot of supements for joints, vitamins, something for cancer and for good gut health. I also learned that since Brownie is hot natured I should feed him a cool diet. Turkey and fish instead of chicken and beef. I need to try that myself. Also got good recipes.
They also said there is an oxygen treatment that is good for dogs with cancer. We will give that a try as well..
So hopefully the power wont go out next week, but the visit was still good and educational.
My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019. With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer. I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud! He will live forever in my Heart!

Oh my goodness, what an adventure! And what a time for the power to go out!! It does sound like a good visit, and that chiropractor sounds like a gem
I have never heard of the hot natured thing. That is really interesting. How did they come about the conclusion?
I have been reading some of your posts, I am a little behind right now with life but I wish you well and I am glad this visit went well for Brownie.

Wow it was spaw day for Brownie! That sounds like a wonderful practice. Where did you go? We would love to learn about what they do.
How nice that he now associates a dogtor visit with good things. And although it was a bummer the power went out, at least it was a short and sweet intro to water therapy. Bet he'll be all over it next time around.
As for the cancer treatment you mentioned, I think you are talking about "Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)"? Here's a description from a clinic that one of our newest members (Sabrina's person) had good things to say about:

Oh and as for hot and cool diets for pets, we learned all about that from Dr. Judy Morgan. Here are some posts about her work:

We went to Veterans Memorial animal Hospital. It's on the north side of Houston.
The hot cold topic came up due to the pressure sore. I explained he gets hot easily and wants to lay on the hard floor. That's when she explained that Turkey, fish, rabbit and lamb are part of the cool diet that can help with hot natured animals. Living in Texas we will definitely try it. I don't know about rabbit though, I use to have pet rabbits. Don't think I could do it. Sorry Brownie. Lol...

Thanks so much for updating and for sharing all sorts of good info!!
Such a bummer about the big swim not taking place though. Not sure Brownie's gonna believe you though next time you use the swim word to get in the car😉
Even if the swim did take place, glad that the visit was benefical overall.

Yes he is! I just read the story about Wyatt. I did not know he was a chained dog. Brownie was a chained dog. He belonged to my neighbor. I use to take him off his chain when he went to work and put him back before the man got home. Then brownie figured out how to get off the chain and would jump the fence into my yard. So one day the man put a huge chain on him the kind you pull a car with. I finally talked the man into selling me brownie. His collar was so tight i could not take it off with sissors. I had to saw thru it with a razor blade. That is the day brownie rescued me!
I never understood why brownie was chained when the man had three acres fenced.
Wyatt hit gold and is a very fortune boy!

Huck sure is a cutie. I have a couple semi ferral cats that hang out at my house. I did catch one and had him neutered. I put a kitty door in my garage so they would have a place to eat and sleep.
And Hannah is georgus and sounds like she put up a heck of a fight. I hope brownie has that will power. Is she Boxer?

OMD adorable!!! Thank you for the pictures.. (I am such a picture hound, haha 🤣🤣🤣 ) You did a wonderful thing letting Brownie rescue you, what a story!
Huck was supposed to be a trap, neuter, release until he came back with his leg broken in two It all worked out though, he has turned into a fine companion and he does not seem to have any regrets about being indoors.
You did a wonderful thing bringing Brownie home, and he looks like a happy pup now

Brownie, you re melting mu heart over here! Such a handsome pup!
It goes without saying that Brownie had your name stamped on his heart the day he was born. It just took a little bit of time for you to find each other. What a great rescue story😎
Keep on rockin' Brownie!

Ohhhhh my gosh I just read your post about Brownie's past. Wow. Yep, just like Wyatt's backstory too.
You are truly amazing and a blessing to him and all animals. Thank you for showing him that not all humans suck!
We are so grateful you found your way here too. Your Brownie story made my Easter day. Thanks & hugs to both of you.

I just read What's story yesterday. There was another dog down the street that was chained. My other neighbor really wanted that dog but the family said no. Well sadly, a couple weeks later the dog wrapped himself up in the chain and bleed to death. I just don't understand why people want an animal they are just going to put out in the back yard on a chain. What's the point?
Anyway, Happy Easter to all of you! We are having Turkey because it's a cool food and the vet said Brownie needs to loose 5 lbs being a tripawd. Ok...But I think he's perfect!

We don't get it either, and stay hopeful that more and more people will see the insanity of not giving a dog the life it deserves to have. The abundance of good people in this community is proof of that, it really gives us hope for a better future for animals!
Sounds like a yummy Easter meal! I'll bet Brownie didn't even notice it was a "diet" meal.
p.s. We once learned that the equivalent of every one 1 pound of excess weight on a dog is the equivalent of five excess pounds on a human. So GREAT JOB on Brownie's weight loss plan!
