Brownie missed his vet appt Saturday because of the storms in Houston. He has been moving slow the past couple days, but eating and acting normal. I was wondering if I should put him back on Remadyl?

My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019.  With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer.  I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud!  He will live forever in my Heart!

Oh no! Are you guys OK?

Boy I think that's a good question for your vet, not knowing his exact history or lab values. NSAIDs are something to play it safe with, so I would just wait until you can get in touch. Meanwhile have you tried massaging him gently to help with the creakiness?

I give him a gentle message right before bedtime for about 10 minutes every night. I think his age maybe catching up with him.

We are fine. Had some heavy rains. It's a 34 min drive to his rehab and didn't want to get stuck.

Did you fix my upside down pic? Thank you!

Oh, and i purchased the sprawl bed yesterday. His is getting a little worn, and I noticed when he would hop on his leg would sink and he would loose balance or just freeze. I went to the pet store but nothing came close to the sprawl bed. And I have never seen where the firm side is for cool, and the soft side is for warmth. Maybe this will help is elderly bones.

Besides, Wyatt looked so comfy I just had to get Brownie one!

I’m so glad you are safe! Hope those crazy storms stop.

Thanks for ordering the Urban Sprawl bed, I know Brownie will love it! It’s the best bed Wyatt has ever had, I end up laying on it with him half the time!

And yup that was me who fixed upside down Brownie 🙃

Brownie goes to the vet on Saturday, but he just isn't being as Mobil as usually is. He is walking slower and he stumbles a little when he jumps up on the couch. He gets a massage every night and doesn't seem to hurt anywhere. I don't see or feel any swelling in his other legs. He eats. He greets me at the door and barks wagging his tail. Does anyone think it's just his age catching up with him? The statics (I know we don't go by statics) is 10 -14 years for a lab, but for some reason a choc lab is less. Brownie being over 12 I just don't know.

First of all, the fact that Brownie is top notch as far as eating, drinking, pooping, peeing, alert, engaged, wagging...all GREAT signs!!

My unprofessional  nonVet "insight" tends to point a little to arthritis, a little to age, a little to that silly boy shouldn't  be jumping up on the sofa.  But we know the love affair dogs have with THEIR sofa, so good luck with that.

While he may not have show signs of arthr before the amo, it may have been revealed  now that he's  been on three legs for awhile now.

What are his daily activities  like as far as how much roaming around he does?  Is he generally more of a couch potato  dog, or more of a running around type pup?  Dogs really prefer to walk slower anyway  so they can stop and take in all the scents nature has to offer.  It does take more effort to prance around on three, so taking things at a slower pace is no biggie

Your Rehab Bet should  be avle to pinpoint if there is any real underlying issue for the "slow down", which I highly, highly doubt.

Ask about Galliprant and Rimadyl when you go see the Rehab Vet too.  Maybe Adequan  injections also.

I called them a they said we can put him back on the Remadyl. Brownie was never a couch potato. We would meet his buddies at the park every weekend and go on 3-5 mile hikes. But that is when he was younger. I noticed him slowing down in the last year. Maybe I'm just freaking because of the cancer. I'm getting older and I have slowed down.

There is a doggie door since I work in the day and sometimes when I come home he will be at the gate when I get home. But I think all 3 of them sleep most of the day. When I'm home, besides him going out to take care of business he only goes out if I'm outside.

It's probably nothing like the pressure sore. I will ask about that injection. Thank you!

Nancy, what's the weather like there? Isn't it kinda muggy and warm? I always noticed a slowdown with Jerry when the weather changed.

Try not to panic. You have a healthy, strong doggie who is getting used to life on three legs. There are many factors that could cause his slowing down and most likely it's a combination of all the things Sally mentioned. Have your vet and rehab team take a look at your next appointment, they are probably going to come back with good news is my guess.

Sending lots of love & hugs for the pack!

You are right. He has always slowed down in the summer. He hates the heat.

I will ask them to check him out for that on Saturday. Maybe he had developed arthritis.

The sprawl bed came today and I must say it's a really nice bed. I have it on the firm side since brownie it hot natured. I really like that it has a non skid bottom and it's large enough he can really stretch out. He layed in it about 15 min ago a now is fast asleep. I believe that is a good sign. I only have one problem. Sassy and max like it too. I guess I have to buy another one next month because I know sassy will snatch it when I'm not here. Maybe this will keep brownie from jumping on the couch

I had to take his vegetables out of his food tonight because he wouldn't eat them. So he had chicken, cottage cheese, an egg and sardines

He is so sweet but so stubban!

Vet tomorrow. Still moving slow. The temperature is about 88 but even with the a.c. in 69, and fans on  you can still feel that Texas humidity.

HaHa!  Sounds like Brownie made his preference  known.  More chicken!  Less veggies!  Spoiling  is so much fun...for doggy and hooman!!😎

Love that Brownie likes the bed.  We have to have a picture.
