Wow!  Just read Miller's story...what an amazing and beautiful dog!!!   Never made it to New England Veterinary Oncology Group but Lupe had her eye surgery at Vescone next door.  Are you in the greater Boston area?  If so, who did/where was Miller's surgery done?

Hope Miller is doing well.  Make sure you get lots of rest, sleep when he does...you will need the rest and strength during the recovery.

Diagnosed with possible synovial cell sarcoma of right front elbow 5/31/12. Amputation surgery performed 6/7/12. Final diagnosis of histiocytic cell sarcoma 6/11/12. Her soul and spirit were strong, her body was not...my little girl earned her wings 6/14/12. Amazing is right!  From a prognosis of did you say 6 months to him actually going on over 900 days!   I truly believe that you just never know, and sometimes good things do happen -- maybe not always, but stories like yours give us hope which in turn gives us the strength we need going through the cancer journey.  And I am saddened to hear your personal loss.

Kathy & Harley

Harley is an 8 year old Golden Retriever. Amp surgery for an infiltrative lipoma canceled due to two masses in chest. A rescue, he found his forever home on 3/18/07 and left for his eternal home on 1/09/13. His story and medical history are at http://myharley.....pawds.com/

Miller, you are incredible. To survive for so long, and thrive, is amazing. I can't blame your Mom for waiting to amputate, you got a bum deal with your existing orthopedic issues , that's for sure. But now that you're a tripawd, hopefully removal of that extra limb will take some weight off and help you out?

What a lucky pup you are to be in such great hands at NEVOG. Is that where your mommy is a vet tech?

Welcome Miller! Boy, what a great story you have!

And you sure are a handsome pup!

I'm sure lots of new folks here will get inspiration from your story and be interested in what your Mama did to help you thrive. Keep kicking cancer's butt!
Jackie, Angel Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Miller has his surgery done by Dr. Julie Bennet of the West Bridgewater Animal Referral Center.... she's an amazing surgeon and so compassionate! We are located in Rockland, MA - and I am a Veterinary Technician at the Norwell Veterinary Hospital in Norwell, MA.

Please, if anyone has any questions about any of the protocol which was used on Miller - feel free to contact us... We have yet to find any mets but we may be seeking out chemo as a precautionary since the limb has been amputated... We will be speaking to the specialist next week....

Well he's definitely in good hands. If you want, be sure to mention your experience in our Veterinary Referrals Discussion Topic here.

We would love to hear more about how you coped before amputation. If you are interested in writing a guest blog post we  would love it and would publish it in the Tripawds News Blog . PM me here and I'll send you some brief guidelines!

Miller is soooo GORGEOUS!  what a truly inspirational story, he is obviously loved so much.

Our pup 'Porthos' has hip dysplasia (limp in back right leg) and had TPLO surgeries on both knees, and diagnosed wth osteocarcoma front right leg (no lung mets yet)

We did one round of Pamidronate but the tumor was acting aggressively and swelled up twice the size after the pamidronate (I believe he may have fractured the leg) We amputated over a month ago and he is doing AMAZINGLY! he was 110lbs before surgery.

I would love to know Millers protocol, Porthos is doing the Artemisinin protocol plus Essiac Tea, Budwig & Dr Dresslers diets, K9 Immunity, K9 Transfer Factor, Meloxicam, c-statin, tumeric and some other natural herbs to help with arthritis in general and we are considering Metronomic Chemotherapy.

Give Miller a hug from Porthos!

Amanda

Angel Porthos, Pyrenean Mastiff, 7 years old Os front right leg, DX 18 May 2012, Amputation 14 June 2012, Hip Dysplasia, Two TPLO surgeries. Is now somewhere over the rainbow, 21 November 2013.

Thanks Amanda - He knows he gorgeous 😉 haha... he likes to 'wink' at people sometimes.. he's awfully cute. Since he was first diagnosed I did many rounds of pamidronate (like maybe six or seven) and 3/4 rounds of pallative radiation - I can't remember the exacts off hand ... I just know I'm still paying them off 😉 As far as after amputation - I am not sure what Nevog is going to recommend but I think I would prefer to do chemo just incase... For stuff at home - when he was first diagnosed I switched his dog food to Fromm's Whitefish and Potato dry... but I'm actually hoping to switch him to one of the Honest Kitchen diets... I have always kept him on the thin side due to his other orthopedic issues - so he has always hovered around 95lbs.....He's currently on 200mg of Gabapentin twice daily, 75mgs of Deramaxx once daily, 125mgs of Tramadol twice daily, 200mgs of Amantadine once daily - and Dasuquin at night - he also takes Welactin fish oil. My plan is to eventually just have him on Welactin, Vitamin E, Dasuquin, Rimadyl (only because Deramaxx is impossible to get ... so after I'm done with my supply we will be doing a 'week wash' and switching to Rimadyl...) and I just ordered K9 Immunity ... I also am going to be looking into other natural herbs/supplements and adding in some of those - there's just SO many of them.... Say Hello to Porthos for Miller
