Our Marley is on her way to surgery. My husband just left to drive the hour up to Portsmouth, NH. She was in such pain over the weekend I've actually been looking forward to today. She actually hopped up the two steps to get into our house from the back on just 3 legs at one point, dragging her lame leg behind her.

We still haven't figured out what meds to put her on post surgery. I asked the surgeon and she didn't seem to have a preference - she said we could do the Fentanyl patch (which I understand is hard to control dosage and can cause hallucinations), Tramadol (which she seemed freaked out on in the past - maybe we should just try again), or Oxycodone (which she's been on the past 4 weeks and the last week has still been in horrible pain even though we doubled it). I did send along a note asking about the Gabapentine... thoughts anyone?

I am going to be a mess all day waiting for the call. I just hope that everything goes well!!

Just heard from my husband who dropped her off. She was crying, not wanting to be there, and the technician had to carry her to the back as she wouldn't walk... (she was there all last Monday for tests). Oh my little girl... I can't stand it!!! I know this is the best thing for her. I just need to keep remembering that...

Good thoughts and prayers also from us. Now it will be your turn to be amazed at our fur-babies' ability to adjust. Looking forward to your report.

Marley should be happy to be free of pain soon. Just keep remembering that. Best wishes for a speedy full recovery. Thanks for the update, and hang in there! Take it one day at a time and remain strong, for your pup.

Jerry was only on Tramadol. which he handled just fine. He never paced, panted, or howled like we have heard some dogs do on the heavier pain meds ... especially the patch. Try to also remember how most dogs can handle pain better than they can deal with trippy side effects of some pain meds.
