Our Marley is home! She's doing great! I was so anxious to see her for the first time, but it was not that bad at all! her incision is more by her belly so when she's standing up you can't even see it. I thought it would be this ghastly thing going up over her side... but it's really not bad at all. She walked down a long hall and out the door of the hospital while I just helped her balance a bit with the sling - really not holding her up at all - and then she peed right when she got outside! It's beautiful here today - 50 degrees and sunny - so unseasonably warm for Massachusetts. She seemed so happy to be outside, started sniffing around, catching all the "pee-mails" of her friends at the hospital...

She was calm most of the ride home (an hour), just a few moments of trembling... mostly slept snuggled up to me in the back seat. Drank a ton of water! She hopped around out back when we got home and peed more. Then came in and Kevin started frying up some hamburg for her and she started crying very loud...... for the hamburg! She INHALED at least a cup of it and cried for more. Gave her a little more... don't want her to get sick! Now she's passed out on her bed...SNORING! They said she did eat a small amount for them in the last 12 hrs (hamburg that we sent to the hospital with her), but not a lot. So I guess she's just ready to eat!

oh, we are just so happy to have our girl back home with us and on the road to recovery! YAY! thanks everyone for helping us to get to this point!!!!!

So glad to hear Marley is home and doing well! Polly is too (though she's a fan of canned chicken instead of hamburger!)

Take care and good luck!

So yesterday was the first day in 4 weeks that I didn't cry… it was so great bringing her home. Last night she was fine - went out to pee a few times, but slept well (with Kevin next to her on the couch). Today she has been great. Being 12 I thought for sure she'd be exhausted and worn out from all of this, but we've actually had to baracade her - she wants to be so active! Luckily we have a plastic indoor “fencing system” from when my son started crawling and we had a tough time babyproofing - we're able to partition an area in the dining room for her to stay in. She's very eager to move around the house! And she loves to be outside - she hops around with no problem - we just help her balance with the sling the vet gave us. We all keep saying how good she looks - her face looks different - I think it must be that the pain is gone - I'm sure we didn't even realize how much pain she was in!

I just finished making the broccoli, kale, cabbage, tomato, egg, garlic, fish oil, meat mixture for her meals which I found in the book Help Your Dog Fight Cancer by Laurie Kaplan - a great book! I just couldn't see myself doing the BARF diet with our two kids and baby due in less than 2 weeks. This recipe was totally manageable - you make it a huge batch and freeze… has anyone done it?

She has started licking her stitches… ah well, inevitable I guess once it starts to heal it must be itchy! I do have the soft collar I ordered online for if we go out. Right now just using a t-shirt which is sort of working…

Just spoke to our surgeon and I was so enthusiastic about how well she's doing that she said she was almost starting to cry! It must be nice for her to know that she persuaded us in the right direction. She was so optimistic that Marley would do well and she was so right!

all for now,

Holly, Kevin and Marley

Glad to hear she is doing well! We have been cooking for our dogs in a crock pot andthen freezing it for about 2 yrs now. Its worked out great!

(My husband also has been sleeping on the couch to be near Polly -- im feeling alittle guilty @ how well Ive slept the last 2 nights! No more worries about what to do or when to do it...nobody snoring......oh i feel guilty but its nice to get some sleep!) Im glad Marley is doing well - Polly is too, though no BM yet making me a little nervous...Confused

Holly,

We saw that change in Trouble's face as well.  Her bright eyes returned and she looks so much younger (except for the distinguished grey)!  What a blessing!

See … all that worrying was for nothing! Wink Glad things are looking up for you and Marley. Thanks for the great update, and menu idea from Laurie Kaplan's great canine cancer book, keep up the good work.

Marley's doing great again today. The only thing that I'm wondering about is that she seems kind of antsy - she hasn't slept much at all today and doesn't want to lay still for long. She keeps wanting to go outside! She definitely pees every time I take her out, but not a ton... The surgeon said that a side effect of tramadol for people is that they become very alert - I wonder if that has something to do with it? She slept fine last night - just up twice to pee...
