I'm glad she's doing well. I'm praying for her too. Sassy is a special girl.

About the cough syrup, it's something you can by at drug store. Years ago I used it for Coal. Much cheaper at the drug store. If you have to go that route ask your vet about that.

Robitusin DM was part of Jerry's treatment protocol once his lung mets started getting worse. This was all part of his reality check.

Dr F treats with Robitusin DM for cough also.  When Trouble had kennel cough that wouldn't respond to medication, he had me start the Robitusin DM.  It knocked it out almost immediately.

Thanks everyone.  So far no need for the cough syrup, but I will keep that in mind.  We got our metronomic drugs today so blood work tomorrow am & I will ask if we should start tomorrow or Sunday.  I also bought a pill gun so that I could give that drug.  She usually just takes pills with cheese on them but I am afraid she might bite into that capsule and we don't need that.  She won't let me put pills down her throat she has figured out how to store them in her cheeks without me knowing it.  LOL

You could practice the hot dog toss over the weekend.  You can practice without meds just to see if Sassy follows the norm.  It may work for you.

The theory is they will chew the first bite, but swallow subsequent bites.

Break the hot dog into bite size pieces.

Toss a piece and they should chew

Toss the second piece and they should swallow

The third piece should contain the medication, toss and they should swallow

Toss a fourth piece just for good measure - don't care if they swallow or chew winker

I use this on Duke when he has to take pills, and it has always worked for him.

Sassy doesn't catch otherwise this would work.  :)

Had a good report at the vet this morning.  Dr Boyer said she wouldn't ever be able to tell that anything was going on just by listening to the lungs.  She said all lung fields sound clear.  White cells were a little elevated at 22,0000, said she wasn't anemic and no blood in urine.

We will be doing  CBC & xrays again at 1 month following the protocol which means April 9th will be our next appoingment.  CBC, physical exam & urine about every month or up to 3 months depending on how the next one goes.  Dr Boyer said she would prefer not to go over every couple of months for xrays and not to go more than a couple of months for blood work.  We will probably try to do blood work every month and not sure about the xrays after the 1st we will see.

Yea for good reports clap - Boo for not catching blush

We did CBC's on Trouble real regularly. Her chemo was every three weeks, so for the 5 treatments it was every 3 weeks.  After that it was every couple of months.   As time went on, they were less frequent.

Sending healing thoughts to you as you begin the treatment. Hoping for the very best.

That's a great report, Michelle! The plan forward sounds really good, too.  clapclapclap

By now you've started the metronomics , right?  How's it going?  How's that pill gun working out?

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

Oh yay! I'm so glad that the pill gun is working. I tell ya once we got one we thought "why didn't we get one of these years ago?!" Here's a blog post featuring the different types that are out there.

How to Pill a Dog or Cat

I'm curious, what kind of precautions are you taking to keep her urine & feces away from Bosch's potty area? I understand this is something one needs to do when you have multiple dogs and one is on chemo?
