Levi celebrated his one-year ampuversary yesterday with some steak dinner!
https://www.ins.....O4ajGByX2/
So we're now 1-year post amputation, and about 14 months post first diagnosis of osteosarcoma. We know every day is a blessing, and we're ecstatic that he's made it this much longer. Of course, we're a bit greedy and hope he blows past all the "stats," but there's no sense worrying ourselves with that now!
We did chemo and had him on Im Yunity for several months, but that got a bit cost prohibitive, so we stopped it last spring. He eats Honest Kitchen food, though he'll probably expect a steak dinner every night now...Â
Everybody here was so awesome and helpful last year when we went through the amputation. I just wanted, in addition to giving the update, to say thank you again. For those who may read this who are about to go through the same themselves, please remember that while many of the stories you'll read are scary and involve complications and dogs having trouble adjusting, not all are like that! Some dogs, like Levi, are back to normal before you can believe it (he'd done the big 3 - eat/pee/poop - within 24 hours). And if there ever is an issue, the folks here are so incredibly supportive and helpful that you should never feel alone. We all understand just how overwhelming this can be, and while obviously nobody wants to join the Tripawd club, once you're in it, it feels like a new family!
Hoping for many ampuversaries for all your Tripawds!
More on Levi, if anybody is interested:
Levi was diagnosed w/likely osteosarcoma at 7.5 years old in 7/2015 and became a Tripawd on 9/11/15. Loved life until he broke one of his front legs on 2/12/17. As x-rays showed clean bone, we decided to repair the leg. He recovered well, but in June of 2017, started to limp on the same leg. X-Rays showed return of OSA in the front leg. Levi crossed the rainbow bridge on 7/20/17, after over 22 months as a happy Tripawd.Â
Oh Levi! First of all, you are SO adorable!! I love boxers! Congrats on the 1yr ampuversary! The first of many I hope! Love the steak dinner pic! He certainly deserves it!
My Kylie is only 10 days post op (rear leg amp as well) and she's doing great! We're hoping to have many more years ahead!
I agree this group of people are amazing & have been such a blessing getting us through this first week! Thanks for sharing your great update with us!
Hi Derek ~
I remember when you first posted, and I'm so glad that Levi is doing so well! Hoppy Ampuversary Levi! It's amazing, isn't it? They're so resilient. Keep doing what you're doing.

Hehe congratulations and happy ampuversary Levi!! 🙂 I just went back through your thread (we hadn't joined the group last year) and what a fantastic story! I adore the Halloween costumes - what have you got planned for this year? Looking forward to more gorgeous pics and videos
Karis & Zuki
Zuki Wuggafer 30/09/06 - 11/11/16. Right hind tripawd due to Osteosarcoma. He had a strong 5 and half months as a tripawd but unfortunately a secondary issue with his spine ended our battle. He loved life, loved our family and was the best dog I could ever ask for. Truly my first love, forever in my thoughts and heart.

Happy Ampuversary!!! One year is a pretty big milestone and I am glad you got to celebrate with a good old steak!
Shelby Lynne; Jack Russell/Shiba Inu mix. Proud member of the April Angels of 2014.
October 15, 2000 to April 8, 2014
Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Hoppy one year ampuversary!  It is so encouraging to hear of dogs who are doing well and beating the odds!
Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.  Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma. Â
Wherever they are, they are together.
Applawse! Applawse! We're thrilled for you and Levi, what a great occasion!
Congrats to all of you for your great attitude, your courage and your pawsitivity. You're the best role models for this community. We hope with all our might that Levi has many, many more hoppy times ahead!

Smore is my tripawd kitty who adopted me one summer evening. She had an injury to her front left leg and had to have her leg removed July 17th. She was only 3 or 4 months old at the time. Now she moves faster than some four legged cats!
