Hello everyone,

My dog Godzilla had her right rear leg amputated yesterday.  She broke her leg and due to the severeity of the break and it's location it could not be saved.  The vet called this morning and said she was doing great and to come and get her.  They said she wanted to run each time she went outside this morning and they were amazed with her.  She is home and doing well with the other dogs.  She already figured out moving from the back seat to the front in the car, I am seeing a seat belt in her future.

This site has been an amazing help since this all began.  Thank you

Godzilla's human

Hi Theresa, welcome and thanks for registering, your future posts won't need approval.

I'm sorry to hear about Godzilla's leg. What was the cause of the break? Car accident? Ouch! Glad she's otherwise OK.

If you have any questions at all don't hesitate to ask OK?

GODZILLA!! Welcome!! Loving that name and cannot wait to see pictures!

Sorry you have to be here but, under the circumstances there is no better place to be!

Be sure and check out out Jerry's books...3 Legs and a Spare , etc. Tons of vital information.

I know Godzilla is feeling good to be home, but it's real important that he take it easy for the first two weeks. She .aybe a little less perky once the hospital meds wear off...or not. Every dog is different.

If you do have hardwoods, you may want to put some nonslip rugs down for traction .

If he's a big dog, raised food bowls help avoid strain. For some reason though, I'm thinking Godzi may be a little Chihuahua???

Hugs to all your pack!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Yes pictures pleaseeeee! Sally, my first thought was, I bet she is a Chihuahua 🙂 The jumping from the back to the front of the car made me think maybe otherwise. I am glad to hear she is doing so well. They adapt amazingly and you will be surprised at what she can accomplish on 3 legs. Sounds like keeping her activity down may be your biggest hurdle. Keep us updated on how she is doing and bring on those pictures! Lori, Ty & Gang

TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed  and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.

Godzilla leg was broken after she jumped the fence and was in a fight with 2 other dogs.  Not sure if the leg broke initally during the jump or during the fight.  The only damage on her was the leg so it is assumed it was during the fight.  The damage was at the ankle/lower leg area.  She came home on Tramadol - 50 mg, Rimadyl- 75 mg and Simplicef- 200 mg.  She was also on them for the period of time she was seen locally, then sent to Albuquerque and back prior to surgery.

I have modified my activity to get her to rest more as otherwise she follows me everywhere and thinks she should still be going on 3-4 mile walks daily.

Godzilla is a 38 lb bundle of energy who was the 10th of 10 puppies and she was born in my bedroom.  She got her name from one of my 2 favorite movie creatures.  I could not figure out how to call a dog named Creature from the Black Lagoon, so , she became Godzilla.  As soon as I can figure out the changes windows 10 made to my computer I will post her picture.

She went back to the Vet yesterday and all looked well. smiley She was not happy to see the office when we pulled up.way-confused

So glad to hear every is going well for Godzilla! Cannot wait to see pictures...she sounds delightful!!

Yes, Godzilla must take it easy for awhile! Usually they don't feel as spunky as she does right out of surgery and they want to just lay around and recover. Godzilla reminds us that every dog's recovery is different!

Looking forward to more great updates!

Hugsto all!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

PS...Maybe next trip to vet can include a ride through a drive-thru for a cheeseburger. It mightnmake her tink bet trips aren't all bad!

Yes, I am Human #2 to the primary Human I814U2C. Glad to be here. Awesome site. Godzilla is doing great. It's like nothing ever happened almost. She has tons of energy, wants to walk everywhere. From what my wife says she will be starting a blog very soon.

She looks great, but you might want to slow her down a little.  Our surgeon said Maggie was only to walk (on leash) for potty breaks and to her food dish for the first two weeks after surgery.

Having a dog full of energy is a good problem to have this soon after surgery!
