Hi all. My 7yo golden retriever, Fionn, is now 3.5 weeks out from a front leg amputation for osteosarcoma. Right before and for 2 weeks after surgery, I wrote a daily description of the ins and outs of the decision and the trials and tribulations of the recovery period as a helpful guide to someone else getting ready or already going through this. I decided to be different and set up my blog as "pages" rather than "posts" so you can click on individual days. Unfortunately, this apparently makes it more difficult to find. It was suggested I post the link here and update every time I add a page. I will add pages as we continue on this journey, just not every day. We have bunnies to chase after all!

It's Fionn's one month AMPUVERSARY todaybig-grin! He's doing great. A little more sore in places like his back and hips so I'm massaging and stretching him. I think all the rolling he does anytime he is on grass must do a good job of that too. He LOVES to roll and he really works those hind legs when he does it! I have had to give him some tramadol and gabapentin here and there. Not much, but there's been a bit more yelping now that he's off all meds. I tapered him off at week 3, but he's been more active too so more reason to have aches and pains I assume.

I updated his blog with a new page and some pictures 🙂

Happy Ampuversary Handsome Fionn! I can't believe it's been a month already! So pleased he's doing well.

If you have a rehab vet anywhere near you, you could always take him to get some advice on managing the physical adjustment etc. Meg would get tension in her back and we found laser and acupuncture worked really well for her. The rehab vet also gave me core strengthening exercises to do with her at home, which helped massively. Just a thought.

Big hugs to you both, and enjoy your celebrations. A month is a major milestone!

I wish I could afford rehab and such for Fionn, but the surgery and chemo have stretched me financially. I am so glad for the video links and the books I got from Tripawds with instructions on exercises and such. I am doing what I can for him at home. Mostly, he and I need to learn his limits and build up his endurance a bit more slowly. It's hard to do because he gets so excited!

We went to a friend's house last night for dinner and their backyard is landscaped with some little hills and rocks and he managed to go in and out and up and down just fine. It was a small yard so not a real workout, but good for him to do something other than walk on flat ground. Then he jumped on their outdoor couch by the fire pit and demanded pets from everyone. He will lick you everywhere if you stop petting him which has been very effective for him 🙂 They have a golden doodle who is a giant lap dog so dogs insisting on attention is nothing new to them.

BTW Meg, I LOVE your blog! You are a wonderful writer and your pups are just adorable! I wish Fionn could come and visit and climb on the stumps with Meg and Elsie.

Second round of chemo today and Fionn has added to his blog. He discovered a new treat today and battled evil beasts! He's been in some pain on and off this past week so he's back on tramadol and gabapentin every day. Other than that, he's happy and loving life as usualbig-grin

Fionn had a fabulous trip to the beach  yesterday (the first of many bucket list activities we hope to do together) and posted another blog entry! Link to his blog is in my signature.

We wish all the tripawds and tripawd families a very joyous holiday season! May 2017 bring health to all and a lot less cancer diagnosisheart

What a great idea to fill your time with great experiences!  Lots of us don't slow down enough to realize how great an experience is.  But, as I sit here in the frozen tundra, I have to admit to being jealous of your beach time!
