Coop is now 4 days post-op and he is his old self.  He is barking at any noise (urggg), playing with his sister, eating well, going outside to hang out, licking all of us and pretty much just being Cooper!  I am surprised because I read so many blogs before the amputation to prepare myself and I thought this would take awhile!  I guess I am scared waiting for "the other shoe to fall?"  Do not get me wrong, we are joyful!  The only negative is his licking, but we put the lick guard around it and it works-just have to keep reapplying. What do you all think, are we just one of the lucky ones or in a pre-diasaster stage?

I'm feeling the same way Kyoule,  Tuner had surgery Thurs 6/30 and is pretty much the same ole dog....i can't tell if he is in pain???  I know he has to be so I keep poking a pain pill down him about every 8 to 10 hrs..He ate some of his food the first night we brought him home but since then he has refused it so I've been scrambling him an egg and of course he gobbles that down...lol..Im just hoping, as you are, that this continues...GOOD LUCK to you and Cooper..

That's great news! Bo seemed like his "normal" self for the first 5 days after surgery (aside from the phantom pains). On day 6, it all seemed to catch up with him. The drugs started messing with his mood and he was completely worn out. A few days of mopey Bo, and he came out of the stuper once he was off most of the meds. Hopefully Cooper will just continue on this great recovery path, but be prepared that it may catch up to him and he will need some time to rest. Good luck with everything!!

Yahhoooo!!!!! Coop and Kyoule, I would say that you guys are doing GREAT!

Usually if a Tripawd is going to have a setback after surgery it tends to happen the day after they get home. It goes like this: Tripawd comes home all hopped up on pain meds, overdoes it the first day, then crashes hard the second and third days. Sometimes a seroma will develop, often because of too much activity too soon.

If the pups are eating and eliminating this is a great sign. Allow them the opportunity to be a bit slower than usual and tired. It will take time for their  muscles to strengthen and get their spark back. But otherwise, sounds like you've got a great recovery going on!

Many times the reason you see more stories in the blogs about setbacks and difficult recoveries is that pawrents whose Tripawds are going through ruff times tend to write more than those who aren't. After all, the writing is therapeutic and that's why we started the blogs. But overall, the majority of Tripawds tend to have normal, uneventful recoveries. Congrats, sounds like you do too!

Every puppy is different. Our Ginger did very well after surgery and we had the same cocerns you do. Bottom line - sounds like Coop is doing well and we hope things will continue to go good for you guys. Keep up the good reports!!!!!

This is great news! Funny how when things seem too easy we get a little anxious sometimes that there must be danger lurking around the corner to trip us up (well, I've been known to be very guilty of that anyways...laugh)

Enjoy every single moment of Coop's smooth recovery. Sending wishes for many more of them.
